What Parents Say
The Thomas M. Menino Y in Hyde Park receives consistently high praise for its fitness facilities, classes, and welcoming environment. Parents and members highlight quality instructors, clean facilities, and strong staff support for children's programs and adult fitness activities. The facility is noted for inclusivity and responsiveness to member needs.
Has always been a great place for kids and families to get active and take classes afterschool. Recently, I’ve come back to work out in the gym and the facilities here are solid. While smaller than other YMCAs, they at least fill up all of the space they can with good machines, benches, and weight racks. If I could suggest anything, I would appreciate more rowing/urging machines and if they could expand the gym at all, they definitely should.
The aerobic water fitness classes on Mon, Tues and Fri consistently are full to the limit with a wait-list. The exec director should offer more classes at more times. Parkway in West Rox has water fitness daily but is not as full and the instructor is better at Menino. Participants in the class come from all parts of Boston even Quincy because the class quality is great.
The available workout equipment is intentionally minimal, designed to emphasize core, functional movements that anyone can master. Interestingly, the adults participating often don’t adhere to conventional gym attire, opting for comfortable casual clothing instead. This approach can seem unorthodox, and no matrix curling bars
The Menino Y in Hyde Park offers great fitness classes, new cardio equipment and weights. Nice clean pool with lap swim and swim lessons. Kids enjoy playing basketball and pickle ball in the gym. I highly recommend Huguette’s yoga classes! Great all levels vinyasa flow in a welcoming environment.
In the beginning, it was a little challenging being African-American and going into the gym. I expect a racially competent environment however, now as I’ve been going here for almost a year, they have become much more friendly to me. The staff the people that come in and I think that’s very important. Life is already full of hardships. The last thing we need is people at the gym, making it even more harder. however, I like the front desk team that they have now and I feel it’s becoming more better shoutout to the pool manager !!
