What Parents Say
Note: Reviews appear to be for YMCA fitness center and summer camp programs, not the daycare facility listed. Parents praise the welcoming staff, clean facilities, diverse fitness classes, and high-quality summer camp experiences that focus on physical activity and social-emotional development.
The western y is my home away from home. The staff are always so helpful and encouraging, and really care about your personal health goals. I'm obsessed with the Les Mills fitness classes this location has to offer. So many time slots available on any day, which really is nice for me with an evening class preference. I spend almost every day here at the western y, and not because of fitness goals... the y is my escape and time with people I made great connections with. I'm only scratching the surface of all the lovely programs and activities the y has to offer... check them out for yourself! Tell them Nicole sent ya!
Most disappointing camp. I was excited for my 6 year old son t attend 1 week at the Y being the week for superheroes theme. It was an awful week for him. I only received a blanket email the Sunday prior to the week with no detailed instructions or agenda for camp. The first day when we dropped him off Monday morning the "camp counselor" who stood in the car line with a tablet had no idea what the week entailed or any agenda. There were no camp counselor feels or excitement for my nervous son joining a huge camp ground with numerous aged kids. My son was bullied that day and a key-chain taken from his water bottle. Another camper helped him retrieve it back - not a counselor. He said kids were mean and smashing juice containers all day. The next day same sort of drop off with no happy greeting or activities explained for the day. My son was not encourage to participate or swim either days. He forgot his water bottle that day and the "camp counselors" are unable to help him find it. He said he sat alone and played in the dirt. Third day he comes home with wet clothes stating he peed his pants. My son is 6 years old and has not peed his pants in years. He said no one showed him where the bathroom was. This is disgusting and has been reported to the camp director with no response. We didn't take him Thursday because of how upset we all were. I took him Friday (the last day) to see if there is an actual superhero theme and the pick up lady says it has been a bad summer and the change in management has had an impact on the camp. Also, there are better camps out there including other camp locations. The Procare app they use did not entail any messages, pictures, or the ability to message anyone. Apparently kids were able to wear their favorite superhero costumes Friday which I was never informed of. It seemed like a badly controlled daycare. This is appalling for the YMCA to be so terrible at a cost of $400 per week.
They have a great variety of workout equipment, but there aren't any sanitary wipes in the fitness center, plus one of the filters in the water fountain is bad.
YMCA provides an environment to be healthy together as a family. Getting a child to workout is not always an easy task. But, getting a child to try something new like pickleball or volleyball is much easier. My daughter takes both pickleball and volleyball and loves it. The instructors are key because they make it fun while teaching her foundational skills. The best part is she wants to practice with me before class. There is no better way to spend quality time with your child by doing something fun and staying healthy at the same time. It's something they will always remember, and the The YMCA created an environment for that!
This YMCA is wonderful. I would like to say thank you so much to the staff for their kindness. The exercise equipment was working well and it was somewhat crowded.
