What Parents Say
The YMCA of Cecil Learning Center in Elkton receives mixed reviews focused primarily on facility amenities rather than daycare services. Parents praise the friendly staff, cleanliness, reasonable pricing, and diverse recreational activities including pools, fitness classes, and sports programs. Common complaints center on the relocated co-ed sauna design, dated facility areas, staff training inconsistencies, and membership policy enforcement.
The facility is clean, the staff are welcoming and friendly, and the pool is large enough for decent lap swimming. My only complaint with this YMCA location is the sauna. This YMCA used to have a sauna in the men’s room and another sauna in the women’s room. A few years ago they closed down the gender segregated saunas and opened one sauna by the pool. It’s problematic for many reasons, it’s awkward going into the sauna as a woman when it’s a bunch of dudes in there. There’s also no shower near the sauna, so you can’t quickly shower after using the sauna before jumping into the pool. Then there’s the weird trend of gym bros who go into the sauna wearing their sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and sneakers. When people wear their clothing into the sauna, it smells like a dirty laundry hamper. Not very relaxing. I’ve never seen anywhere else where people go into a sauna wearing dirty gym clothes.
Brought a guest first time to y and he wanted to check it out and maybe join. Was told even though I had been there several times actually I was a guest because I was a member in Delaware. So we asked if he could go in a check it out since we're already there. No 👎
Update: I was accommodated thanks to George. I have my eight classes for 115 per person and me and my children officially started our first swim class lessons our instructor Tracy is wonderful . Even though this location still has its issues with staff not being properly trained and informed of the correct information to pass along to their members, is still an issue but they are doing much better in other areas. Bounce room no longer available. Pool slide and Hot tube are out of order. Gym area is useful pools are nice. Its an ok place for the middle of nowhere. But they can still keep the 1⭐ its a trash YMCA. Do Better😑
People are always friendly there, price is right, the place is always clean, a nice assortment of exercise equipment, and it's well maintained, as is the Y itself, they have many classes for exercise to take, from beginner to experienced, if something is broken, on site, it doesn't take them long to fix it, great crew. The pool is huge, and they even have an outdoor pool in the spring, and summer months, racquet ball courts 2 of them, and three large basketball courts, and they even have pickle ball there. If you looking for a great Y to join choose this one, you won't be sorry.
It wouldn’t be Cecil County without racism. An older white desk attendant proceeded to interrogate me about the validity of my membership by asking me multiple times “Are you from around here?” After I confirmed every time, but even if I wasn’t my membership is nationwide, which I informed her of. An older Black woman joined in the conversation and did not help the hostile and uncomfortable situation her coworker created. I suggest anyone Black or of color to be cautious if you can’t avoid this place all together.
