Ymca @ Northwest Activity Center

I was continously assisted by the staff here with my Unemployment Claim. They are friendly and accommodating. They happened to also have a working relationship with my place of employment. However, they weren't biased. I'll plan to return for any and all services they provide. Thank you very much for your support. Peace!

I took swim and water aerobics classes from November to December 2025. I really enjoyed the classes and can't say enough positive things about Cossandra. She is an exceptional water aerobics instructor and lifeguard. She is incredibly energetic, passionate, and engaging, and it shows in every class she leads. Her enthusiasm is contagious and makes each session both motivating and enjoyable. I highly recommend her class. She is also a kind, patient, and congenial lifeguard who makes everyone feel safe and welcome. As a swim instructor, she is especially encouraging and skilled with beginner swimmers. She offers helpful techniques that ease anxiety, build confidence, and help students become comfortable in the water while developing strong swimming skills. Mr. Shawn is another excellent lifeguard and swim instructor. He is patient, kind and truly takes his time with beginner swimmers to help them build confidence in the water. He is especially flexible and thoughtful when working with individuals with special needs, always ensuring safety while teaching at each individual’s learning level. They are truly a wonderful asset to NWAC and our community. I only wish the Sauna was working. It was down during most of my visit. It was reported a part was on back order. I hope it will be up and running by my next visit this month. Jacqueline

We were invited to speak about health and wellness to two groups of senior citizens at the Northwest Activities Center. They asked several great questions about how to be healthier, how to have less pain, how to control high blood pressure, and better manage diabetes. I love speaking at these events because it’s an opportunity to help people achieve their health goals. As for the building, clean, nice, easy to access from the parking lot. Large parking lot that was mostly filled at the time of the event. There was also a mobile food pantry at the time that I went, and I think it’s a monthly amenity.

I use the weight room here when it’s actually open and things are working in there. Website is never updated, poorly maintained equipment, front desk people never answer the phone and when they do they are not friendly. Only upside is that it’s cheap and around the corner

Absolutely great programs for all ages. I participate in their senior classes. I'm very happy with the staff, the classes and the participants. I was warmly welcomed as a new member and informed about their programs. The city of Detroit has a great website that guides you through the available community centers and all they offer.
