What Parents Say
Parents praise the YMCA Language Academy of Sacramento for its effective Spanish immersion program, caring teachers, and strong principal leadership. Students develop strong bilingual skills in Spanish and English while enjoying a student-oriented environment with engaging school events. However, some concerns were raised about yard duty staff professionalism and teaching engagement.
My children have concluded their journey at language academy, so I thought to leave a final review. We have been with language academy a total of 5 years, and we decided to Home school this year not because of the schools quality, but what worked for our growing family size. With that said, my children’s 5 years at LAS was absolutely amazing. The teachers were AMAZING and they displayed love for all of their students and were able to work with my kids on struggling subjects to help them conquer and persevere. They were always offering after school programs and were very student oriented with school events. They also allowed a family market (like a farmers market) during school festivals so any family that had hand crafted items could sell it. My personal experience with all the teachers my children had were amazing. The Spanish immersion was made to help non Spanish speaking kids succeed- my kids are able to hold a conversation and speak well. They are also very good in their reading and writing. Their homework allowed us to have a good idea of what was taught in class and reflected the dual language curriculum per grade level. Finally, the Principal Maestro Leon. I can only go on the bias of my personal principal experience, what I’ve heard through my close families, and friends. Though, Maestro Leon was able to be the best principal I’ve ever known. He made a point to know all the kids in the school, showed them all lots of love and was very attentive to the students. He also was very professional, and was incredible at communication with parents. He was there every day and gave that school his all and it showed in all of the staff and students. You won’t regret sending your family to this amazing dual immersion charter school.
They are an amazing school my kids love it
I don’t think the admission system for this school is fair at all tbh. My child was on the waitlist for the last two years, which is fine. But I thought it was weird when they reached out asking if we would like to remove him from the waitlist. Why would we do that lol we’ve already been waiting all this time. We’ll just got off the phone with the admissions person this morning, since my son has been skipped a grade in his current school that dropped him further down the admissions list. So I say all this to say that this school may be a good opportunity for students but the process to get in isn’t working the way it should be. I hope this information helps a parent considering starting the process with this school.
Its a good school, you learn 10% more english each grade definitely recommend if you want your child to be bilingual. Yard duty’s arent rude but just strict especially if your a troublemaker I would say some teachers are definitely rude, Ive experience anothrr teacher that wasnt mine being rude a lot.
The yard duty are rude so I don't recommend that and the teachers are great but they be kinda boring thay don't make it fun. One thing that cool about language Academy is that it bilingual so u learn Spanish
