What Parents Say
YMCA Garden Ranch Day Camp receives consistently high ratings for its excellent instructors, welcoming community atmosphere, and affordable membership that serves families of all abilities. Parents particularly praise the swimming lessons and child care staff. While the facility is older and requires ongoing maintenance, parents view it as good value for the services provided.
I'm not a member, but took my grandson for swim lessons. The classes were very small, with lots a one on one attention, free swim time, and fun, informal atmosphere. The facilities are old, but clean and well-maintained. We would arrive early so that parking was not problematic. It was overall a great experience for my grandson and me.
My family and I have been going here for years. Every year the cost goes up but the facility never gets improved, the ceilings leak everywhere, it's dirty and poorly maintained. Over the last 2-3 years, there is a constant staff turn over. I pay a little extra every month to get a discount on the kid's activities including 25% off summer day camp, which I was informed this year, they no longer give a discount for, but again, as every year in the past, the membership prices go up. This is a great facility if you are approved for assistance, but if you make "too much" you'll pay as much as you would pay for a wayyyy nicer facility like Life Time.
12/28/18- First time here in about a year and they decide today's the opportune time to do a fire drill... in 13 degree weather. Everything seems to be broken in the times past that I've come. There are better gyms around. 2017- Never open at the right times if you work and have kids. They claim to be family oriented but apparently this is family oriented if you are the stay-at-home parent. I work 8-5 but that's on a good day. I come home and eat, help clean up, get the kids to bed. By that time it's already 8. Now that I have some free time I decide to go and swim some laps at their pool at a quick glance at their website it says the Facility and Pool hours are from 5:30 - 9:30 on the day I am going so I grab my trousers and off I go. After showering before entering the pool the lifeguard stops me and tells me they're closing. It's 8:30! That's not what their website said?! I went back to their website and found to my dismay (you have to scroll down further) that there is a separate "pool" schedule APART from the one that says "Facilities and POOL". So I'm soaked and don't have regular gym clothes to work out it and went home with nothing accomplished (other than this review). Besides this one occasion they are closed on even the smallest of holidays which is really the only other time/day I have open to come. So if you work and have kids at home, choose somewhere else besides the YMCA. I would but my wife is currently stay-at-home so it works out for her.
I wrote this letter to the Manager of the YMCA, and never herd back. I was at your swimming location on Dublin. I have twin seven year old girls. While in the lazy river, both my girls and I were going around in circles. My one daughter was about five feet ahead of me, and then other was in my arms. Your life guard mumbles at me. I say excuse me… he proceeds to mumble. I interrupt him and express that I cannot hear him, while pulling my ear forward. He YELLS “you need to watch your kid, you can’t just let it roam free” loud enough for other parents to hear. Afterwards he proceeds to go to each of his co-workers, discussing his opinion of me with each of them. Each co-worker looked around for me, and if they couldn’t find me, he felt it was important to point me out to them by pointing directly at me. What is the age, where children are allowed to be within five feet of the parent? He ruined a family outing. Each visit to your center has always been uncomfortable… this day, I left within a few minutes of being in the pool. These children you have as life guards are far too immature to have such a serious position, protecting our children and local families from harm. Etiquette and customer service lessons are sure in order. I paid for three daily pool passes. I would like reimbursement.
We have been going to this location for over 6 years. My daughter has been in swim lessons and swim team and I use the gym during her swim practice. Everything was great up until about a year and a half ago. I don't know what happened, but since then registration for swim team and swim lessons has been the biggest pain! Every. Single. Month. They screw it up. I sign up the kids, then they get dropped from the schedule. Every. Single. Month. I have to spend between 15-45 minutes to unscrew what they screw up. They always blame it on the computer system. Get a new contract for your computers! Wow! Why is it a freaking rocket science to have kids signed up for swim classes? We are sad but we have to leave. We are going to try another Y and if the same problems exist there too, we will have to leave the Y all together. Signing up for classes should not be the biggest a$$ pain in my life but has been for over 18 months now. Very obviously nobody cares to fix the problem. Sad.
