What Parents Say
SCPA is a school-based arts program (grades 4-12) in Cincinnati with highly experienced instructors and strong performance opportunities. Parents praise the quality arts education and inclusive culture, though some report significant bullying issues and concerns about staff capacity in lower grades (K-3).
Tons of reviews for bullying. Wow! This is the THIRD child I’ve removed from the school and the second in as many weeks. I don’t know these other children but I would assume a problem at home is the reason they act up in school. Rude and dismissive staff ABSOLUTELY! The principal even said there was nothing he could do. But the very second I show up to the school everyone is “protecting the students” Anyhow, once upon a time this was a great institution. Not so much now.
This school is horrible! I haven’t seen one thing they academically did for my child I have yet to see a certificate for honor roll or any type of achievements.
My son attended SCPA last year, and our experience was extremely frustrating. From the very beginning, the front desk staff was consistently rude and dismissive. Every phone call felt like I was bothering them, and instead of being helpful, they acted irritated and short. Communication with the school was nearly impossible — emails went unanswered, phone calls went nowhere, and there was never any sense of accountability. The entire school seemed disorganized at every level. Nothing was streamlined for parents, and it often felt like we were left in the dark about important information. The pick-up and drop-off process was a complete disaster. It was chaotic, unsafe, and lacked even the most basic safety protocols for car riders. I was shocked that this is allowed to continue, considering the number of children and cars involved every single day. The only positive part of our experience was my son’s teacher, Miss Fite O’Bernier. She was outstanding — kind, professional, and truly invested in her students. She was the one bright spot in an otherwise negative school experience. Overall, SCPA desperately needs to fix its communication, organization, and professionalism. Until they address these problems, I would not recommend this school to other families.
Bullying is a major problem at the school. Teachers try their best to stop it but there’s only so much they can do to stop a teenager. The education is top of the line, the arts provide a genuine challenge and at no point are a cake walk. Great overall school I just wish the students weren’t so extremely competitive as it just ruins a ton of stuff since none of the kids want to support eachother and would rather watch someone fall below them.
Don't send your children to this school. If you have a young child (K-3) send them to schools that have smaller teacher-student ratios, supportive staff, and a true desire to bring out the best in each student. The K-3rd grade teaching staff is Not equipped to meet the learning, social, or emotional needs of the diverse student population. I dare you to pop up and visit. See what you hear and find. Don't get caught up in the persona of SCPA. Ultimately, a school/organization is a reflection of the leader's and educator's priorities. Parents hug your children. Listen to your children. Tell them and show them You love them. Send them to a school where they can learn and grow instead of being berated and ridiculed daily. If you send or keep your child(ren) at SCPA, you'll kick yourself, maybe even hate yourself and wonder what went wrong.
