What Parents Say
The Lakeland YMCA Activity Club receives overwhelmingly positive feedback for its modern facilities, friendly and caring staff, and diverse programs for children and families. Parents consistently praise the aquatics programs, sports offerings, childcare services, and strong sense of community. One recent review noted a significant decline in customer service and staff friendliness over the past few years.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lakeland Family YMCA – A Huge Win for Our Community. The Lakeland YMCA absolutely knocked it out of the park with their new building. The moment you walk in, you can feel the intention, the investment, and the pride they put into creating a space that truly serves families, athletes, and everyday people trying to live healthier lives. It’s modern, welcoming, and built with the kind of care you only get from an organization that genuinely loves its community. Lakeland is lucky to have a YMCA that keeps raising the bar. Their team, their vision, and this incredible new facility are a reminder of why our city continues to grow stronger. Huge congratulations to everyone involved — this is a game‑changer for our community.
I got a membership here for a month last summer while renting an Airbnb nearby. Cannot recommend this place more. Staff is so kind, friendly, and helpful - especially Jeremy, the manager. Great facilities and welcoming atmosphere.
A few months ago, my husband and I took our two kids and our godson swimming at the YMCA. From the moment we arrived, it felt like the lifeguard was watching my son and godson more harshly than anyone else. Any little thing they did he would scold them. Didn't let them play with the floaties they had out, stating they were for the summer camp kids, although other kids in the pool were playing with them later on and he didn't say anything. He didn’t want them in the larger pool because of the lap swimmers, even though they were swimming well away from that area. Fine—I told them to come join me in the smaller pool. Then, two white boys walked in wearing black jeans, a T-shirt, and socks, and got straight into the pool fully clothed. The lifeguard didn’t say a single word to them. They swam around like that for a few minutes and left, completely unchecked. The final straw was when my godson splashed my son in the face—something completely normal in a pool—and the lifeguard immediately scolded them for it. At that point, I decided it was best for us to leave before things escalated, because I could see my husband growing frustrated. On our way to the front desk to cancel my membership, we passed a clerk who was literally in tears. She told us she had just been “made to cry” by a Black man who called her out after she responded inappropriately when he wished her a Happy Juneteenth. That was the last confirmation I needed. I told her to cancel my membership on the spot. The YMCA will never receive another dime of our hard-earned money
Swimming is a hot mess. First they send an email then they tell you your kids can. Not make up the day because they so called sent email. Go somewhere else
Immensely frustrating to get a membership to use the pool for lap swim workouts. Borderline inaccessible because it’s being used for lessons at any normal time you’d want to use it. Stay away - just completely mismanaged. If you’re looking for a gym Lakeland has better options everywhere
