What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise Saxon Hill School for its highly educated staff, Reggio Emilia-based philosophy, and strong community focus. The program emphasizes outdoor exploration, independence, creative play, and emotional development, with families appreciating the co-op structure and parent involvement opportunities. Children are reported to be happy, engaged, and developing strong autonomy and social skills.
Saxon hill is a wonderful school with highly educated and knowledgable staff. It's philosophy is Reggio Emilia based that focuses on collaboration between teacher, child and parent. Parents are involved and volunteer around 1X a month or less roughly. Community is cultivated and it truly feels like a safe space for my child. Currently my son and daughter are enrolled and we participate in the after school (ED) program that runs until 4:30. I love that I get to see how my children interact in the classroom and I learn how to better communicate with my preshoolers through the ability to observe the teachers interactions. There is also a large focus on the outdoors and both the indoor and outdoor spaces are innovative, creative and eternally evolving. I have a friend who teaches at the nearby elementary school stated "I can tell the kids who go to saxon hill and its in a good way". The school evokes imagination, cooperation and teaches emotional regulation during a time that is one of the most influential times of a child's life. Any extra time that the cooperative/volunteer aspect may take I believe is truly an investment in my child. It is a truly fabulous place and I highly recommend it. Attend some information sessions and getting a tour of the school if you have any interest.
I cannot say enough good things about Saxon Hill School. The staff is incredible - they are highly educated and devoted to the individual needs of each child in their care. My children have developed so much autonomy and independence - from getting dressed for the weather to pouring water, setting the table, and problem solving. They are encouraged to be curious about themselves and the world around them. No matter the weather- the kids are outside and exploring the natural world- either in the thoughtfully adventurous playground, forest explorations, or trail walks to Mills riverside park. My girls come home tired, happy, and always eager to go back to school the next day. The co-op structure has been an amazing fit for our family. We look forward to our family helper days and being a partner in our kids’ early education years. There is a true sense of community here- if you are looking for a preschool and a village- then I’d highly recommend Saxon Hill School.
Such a special school and community! The teachers are knowledgeable, thoughtful, creative, and friendly. The outside and indoor spaces are beautifully designed to enhance creative play, independence, and exploration. My son loves being outside for so much of the day and always lets me know when a new train book has "appeared" in his classroom book corner : ) He loves school.
Saxon Hill preschool has exceptional staff and truly embodies the teacher, parent, child connection. The program encourages community and personal relationships. It has exceeded our expectations!
There is something truly special happening at SHS. The experience of respect, kindness, guidance and love the educational staff shows for all of the children is quite powerful. I’m grateful we found this school and my child has the opportunity to experience the type of community we can only hope to replicate in more of the world 💜
