We utilize the pre-k program at the ymca - we have repeatedly been impressed with the staff, level of education the kids are getting and the loving adults in their room. Easy transition into kindergarten. I utilize the track, and love the comradarie among the usual walkers. We have also utilized the summer camp - which is fantastic and the sports which is HIGHLY organized. Its busy but of course a beloved program will be.
Great YMCA with a safe child watch. Everyone is very friendly and most of the machines are always in good working order. I personally don’t care for the treadmill placement or the new bikes. Overall though one of the better YMCAs you can join.
When I wasn’t a member here, the staff made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable excessively, reminding me about their policy, requiring members to go to their Home YMCA 51% of the time. I am aware of this rule as I’ve been a YMCA member for 10 years. Now that I’m a member here I’m they make my brother feel unwelcome with the same nonsense when he comes to work out with me as he is a crown point member. Additionally, I have never seen such a large YMCA with such a large member base restrict their hours so much. I figured there must have been a mistake when I got out of church today expecting to work out at 8:30 AM on a Sunday to find out that the YMCA does not open until 11. I hate to leave a bad review here because this is now my YMCA but I’ve been to most YMCA’s in this region and also when I travel out of state and the Valparaiso YMCA is the only one that I’ve ever had these issues with. It breaks my heart to say that my only regret about moving out to Valpo is having to switch from the crown point ymca to this one.
Love the track, sauna, and available classes. I’m eager to try the Pilates class with reformers. The whirlpool is sort of gross a lot of the time and the shower floors could stand some scrubbing, but overall I’m a fan of the Y.
The Valpo Y is probably the best YMCA I've ever been to! The kids pool area is a major attraction for kids of all ages. The weights and machines are all in one giant room with more than you'd need to get fit! Other YMCAs have aerobics and weights separate, which I feel is more comfortable for some.
