I feel the need to comment because the only other reviews are so very unlike the experience I have had with Wyndmoor Montessori. My daughter is now 2 1/2 and has been attending Wyndmoor Montessori for a little over a year. I have found the staff to be incredibly attentive and caring, to the point that Miss Judy (Toddler 1 classroom) took a photo of my daughter and I on her cell phone and would show my daughter the photo throughout the day when she was having trouble and missing mama. My daughter has chronic ear infections and they were always quick to communicate if they thought her ears were bothering her. The main teacher in the classroom provided me with her personal cell phone number and I was allowed to contact her, to quote, "Any time, day or night." I did text and call her on multiple occasions and she was always polite, look my call, and answered my questions. The holiday show they put on for parents included many different religions, as well as general winter time songs which I thought was wonderful. This may not be the shiniest, newest school with instructors who all have their PhD's, but in my heart I know they care about my child's well-being while she is there and ultimately that is why we continue to send our daughter to Wyndmoor Montessori and recommend it to other families.
I was disappointed by this school in general and specifically the infant care. General points: - disorganized and poorly maintained. The security code on the door NEVER worked for us the two weeks we took our child here. They never labeled his bin or his shelf in the fridge. There's a generally messy appearance. - Lisa Boyle, the new administrator, is defensive when issues are brought to her attention. granted she was relatively new when we attended this school. The second time I called to discuss issues I never received a return call -- and after we pulled out our child, there was never a follow-up. No "What could we have done better." Not great customer service there. - No one ever smiles, as far as I can tell. I am not sure I've ever seen a teacher there smile. Infant care points: - the teachers in the infant room are hit-or-miss. Some seemed very nurturing but at least half seemed rather cold and uncaring with the kids -- they took care of them and held them when they wanted to be held, but in sort of an uncaring "I'm just doing my job" way. - communication is terrible. It was like pulling teeth just to get simple details from my child's day, and they didn't fill out the information sheets until when I came to pick him up. - the infants and toddlers are all in one room. Infants need different care and I felt they were getting short shrift. - We were never greeted when we dropped or picked up our infant. He was never made to feel special. I didn't get the sense that anyone looked forward to seeing him. one anecdotal point is that i observed a preschool teacher speak in a needlessly sharp voice to a kid who was pulling another kid's shirt. It was my understanding that this is not "The Montessori Way". It was a single incident, though.
