Literal shelter from the storm, for that moment when there's nowhere else to go. THANK YOU to some very good people showing mercy and helpfulness despite how hard their task is sometimes.

Emily was literally an angel of protection that swooped down and gathered my family in the protection of her arms. We were just getting out of a really bad 8 year situation. We were scared. We looked for housing for so long. There was nothing in our price range. We were not getting anywhere on any of the lists. But than we foun the number that is the number through the housing authorities website. And they had called in 3 days. We were in the Bruce less then a week latter. EVERYONE at the Bruce showed our family such kindness and Grace. They help with so much while you are there. Providing a warm place to live. Within 2 months we were housed in a new apartment. And this is our first Christmas in 8 years that we will be warm and cozy. And we are extremely greatul for everyone there! And I met so many great women while I was there. Both in staff and residents. They know who they are if the see this. And I will always remember them.

This program is disappointing to say the least. They pick who they help and who they don't. You can't get a clear list of things they help with, because they don't treat people fairly. If residents have a grievance they will not freely give them the information on how to do so. They claim to provide housing support but after being here a year I was never able to even meet with anyone to assist in finding housing. Over the course of this past year, of people coming and going, not one of them has been placed into permanent housing by this organization. In fact, they have created more homeless people then not because staff will target whoever they don't like, harassing and bullying them until they can finally kick them out. The executive director lacks integrity by actions and words, we had a meeting where she vowed to wipe the slate clean in front of her staff then claimed to have never said that. She falsified claims in eviction papers by only telling partial truths followed by false claims of non compliance. She also will taunt residents in front of others to try to push them to act out. They also allow police to do illegal searches with K-9s without obtaining search warrants by letting the k-9 do free air sniffs of residents doors which violates 4th amendment rights according to previous court rulings on this matter. After knowing all the wonderful things other areas get from the womans resource center it is a shame this place is able to carry the same name.

I appreciate the staff at the Bruce for the work they do helping residents in some very difficult situations. Transitions are very difficult, but the Bruce staff work hard to provide clear guidelines, support and expectations to ensure a safe facility and assistance in finding more permanent housing solutions.

My daughter was there while she was pregnant. She was forced to work with harsh cleaning chemicals while pregnant even with a doctor's note. Now her child has breathing issues. They took all her food stamps and her money each. She couldn't even buy herself personal cleansing supplies or shampoo and soap. She had ask permission to come see me. She was kicked out in the cold of the night in winter and was denied her belongings. She was forced to see a psychiatrist, forced to take AA classes and drug classes several times a week. And was told if she didn't she would be kicked out. She had to cook, her food for everyone in the Bruce House when they told her too. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
