What Parents Say

Woodland Hills Private School receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from most parents who praise the caring teachers, strong communication, and developmental progress of their children. However, one parent reported a negative experience where the school pressured them to seek developmental assessment for their 2-year-old and suggested part-time care only, which they felt was unfairly stigmatizing their child's normal adjustment and speech delay.

We had a very negative experience for our 2 year old son at the WHPS Collins St campus. My son started school for the first time two months before turning 3 and was enjoying himself. 3 weeks into his enrollment, a parent teacher conference was requested where the admin and teacher gave us feedback that indicated they believed he needed developmental assessment and that they would only support him for part time care. They said he was “disruptive” to nap time because they require children who wake up early to sit quietly at their cot, something he had not yet learned to do. They referred us to an LMFT that works closely with the school. I called her and she said if the school was flagging anything that there “was definitely something wrong with my son” which was extremely hurtful and unprofessional, I didn’t tell her anything the school had said. I did not work with that person. Our son had been assessed almost a year prior due to a speech delay he is in speech therapy for. We had him assessed again, met with his pediatrician and speech therapist and all results returned that our son is a developmentally normal child and that he had made great progress with his speech. My pediatrician at UCLA said the school’s feedback used language to suggest ASD, which we know is not the case. If it was, I fear for the students who do need the extra help and would be cast out by WHPS. This all came down to the schools business model - they use nap time as lunch time for teachers. This is a staffing issue, and they tried to blame my child, who was adjusting to school for the time. Your child may not be supported here, look elsewhere for supportive care. WHPS didn’t care about my son when I trusted them. The teacher was very clearly inexperienced and untrained in developmental nuance. There are so many other schools to choose from in the area. Edit: When you read the school’s reply, take note that they talk about how they give student feedback and disregard that they were not willing or able to support us, or their nap policy. The 3 medical professionals we consulted said they are seeing more schools use this tactic with students that they don’t want to deal with as they are private institutions and not legally obligated to support. You don’t want to risk you and your child being treated the way we were at WHPS. They stigmatized my son’s speech delay into something it is not, and they are not sorry.

Woodland Hills Private School is a wonderful environment for teaching young children of all life's treasures. They provide a sense of community with strong communication and kindness towards all children including mine. I feel comfortable and confident dropping them off and know my children are in loving hands. Their smiles and their developmental/educational progress is evidence to how amazing this school is for young children.

This is our 3rd year at WHPS Collins and we've had a great experience. The office staff is very friendly and prompt with requests and emails. The teachers are very dedicated and really on top of things. My kids do so many fun projects, activities, arts and crafts, etc. Overall, it's a great environment for the preschool age.

We could not be happier at Woodland Hills Private School - Collins campus! My daughter started at 18months in the toddler program and her development and social-emotional skills have exploded since then. The teachers and aides are loving, dedicated, and thoughtful, the administration is communicative and diligent, the student body is inclusive and diverse, the play-based curriculum is personalized and developmentally appropriate, and the parent association is a fantastic community of parents who help support the school in bringing a wide variety of enrichment activities to campus. We've always felt like we're in such great hands. All of the kiddos seem so happy, well rounded, and thriving and we're so grateful for the WHPS community. We can't wait to enroll our 2nd child there next fall.

I will say that when we moved during the peak of Covid, we were very nerouvs to send our child to a school in a new city. 4 Years later 2 kids who have gone through I could not be happier. Not only is Robin of the my favorite people, but the teachers have been the reason why the school has been so great. We have had handful of teachers for both kids and I could not recommend this school enough. There is a true community and will be sad when our kids are finished hear.
