What Parents Say
Willow Child Development Center is a community facility in Bakersfield offering free educational classes for children 18 months to 5 years old, with no income requirements. Parents praise the clean facilities, caring staff, educational programs, and convenient location near the Kern River. The facility also features recreational amenities including disc golf, baseball fields, and a water park.
The park is lovely, but I didn't visit the center. There are a lot of homeless people and a fair amount of oddballs in the park but the scenery is peaceful and pretty. A good place to sit in the shade, enjoy the trees and read, as long as the natives leave you in peace. Don't stay after dark.
A hidden gem in our NOR community. Great for the kids and schools. It has a nice gym (our school volleyball teams practiced here while our home gym was under construction) baseball fields, preschool. They need to clean up the outside and free it of homeless but the inside is a nice place for kids to go and stay out of trouble.
They do not have open gym for basketball. But the old people in there playing pickleball on the basketball courts🤣
I love this place. It's the only NOR facility that offer free 1 hour educational classes to children 18 months to 5 years old. I started taking my son when he was 3 1/2 for the first class that taught kids starting at 18 months and he loved it. He still does. He attends both classes now. The Little Learners from 9-10am and then the 4&5 class from 10-11. Kids just have to be up to date with their vaccines to attend and income is not a requirement. Any child can attend. My son learned how to write his name and they even held a small graduation ceremony for the kids moving on to T-K and Kindergarten. The area is rough but the staff is great, facilities clean, great programs, and plenty of parking.
This place is in a quiet area, hidden away in a bad part of oildale. That doesn't take away from its great programs, beautiful facilities, and friendly staff. I reserved the gymnasium for a Dance/Colorguard Clinic a few weeks in advance. I paid for 7 hours and also a deposit. They got a big chunk of change. I also, called a week in advance and several days after to get information and asked questions. The staff was nothing but helpful and polite. Each time I mentioned that I would be teaching a color guard clinic and is that allowed. Each time they said yes. I also got different fee information for everyone I talked to. The same day, 3 hours after I payed, I get a call from the facility. The supervisor had denied the event after I booked it, paid, and begun looking for insurance. They said they were afraid that the event would damage the floors. I had told them several times what we would be doing in the facility and got the ok each time. The kids participating in the event were excited that we would be inside a beautiful gym for this and heart broken to know that we may have to postpone to find another place. Overall, staff at the front desk were kind, helpful, but unsure of the basic information of the place. Couldn't get a firm price until I went in and then they took my money and denied it anyway. I did get my money back, but am now stuck trying to find a new place in a matter of a week or so. Great place to take your kids and participate in the community activities. Not a good place to do business. Side Note: the staff told me that the reason for insurance was to fix anything that breaks. Also, they are installing a new floor in 2 months so it wouldn't make a difference if there were new damage to the floors. The supervisor made the decision after a bad experience with a previous colorguard. understandable, but they should have denied me in the beginning.
