W.H. Jones Head Start/Early Head Start

Hello All. I hate to do this. But I have to. First off, this review has nothing to do with the teachers. They all are doing a great job and I can tell they love the children. However, this is about the administration over the Early Head Start. I was without work for months and I needed my child to get care during the day so I could start back working. God provided a very good job for me and I was able to get my child into the W. H. Jones Early Headstart. However, a few months in they sent a text/email stating the class room would be closed for maintenance. I found out later what ‘maintenance’ meant. Anyway, I believe the classroom was closed a day or two and after that they ended up putting the kids into another classroom while they fixed the problem. So days later they open the classroom back up. It was open for maybe a week and they closed it again. This time, no text/email and when I got to the school they told me that I had to take my child home because the room was closed again. So all these class closing days I have to stay home with my child. Thankfully I work from home but I can get in trouble having a child around for my job. I am a single mom and I have no one who can keep my child on a daily basis while I work. So I work knowing that I could get fired for having my child at home. So this happened about a month ago. They were closed the 2 weeks for the holiday but I get a text yesterday stating that they are still working on the issue. I don’t understand why they can’t use another classroom like they did before or offer I take my child to one of there other locations. Oh, I forgot to mention, before the break they stated they found a class but they have to sanitize it…this was about a week before the break. How long does it take to sanitize a classroom? So I wonder, are they still getting paid by the state if my child isn’t there?? I’m sure they are. And meanwhile no one has given me another option to where I can take my child. I’m sure there is something that could have been done since this was a sort of emergency situation. They have given no time on when the class will open so I continue to hope and pray I don’t get fired from my job. However, since I am working now, I will be trying to get him into a different day care because I guess you get what you pay for. It’s a shame that I’m having to write this. And I left a voicemail for the head of PRVO headstarts and never received a call back. If you want to send your child to this place, please have a backup just in case. The administration does not care. All they want is to continue to get paid. I wanted to give them one star but I couldn’t because of the hardworking teachers there…but it’s still a low rating because of what they did and are still doing.

The staff was very nice and explained everything I needed to know. They are professional and helpful. They start accepting kids from 8 weeks old. They don't have to be on waiting list that long my child was on there only for a month.
