Started attending in February of 2024 after church shopping for a couple of years. The church community is mostly white with several Black and Hispanic families with younger children. The ages of people range a lot, from people in their 80s and 90s to young families. They have 3 services - 2 more liturgical (think hymns and call and response prayer) as well as a more contemporary service. Additionally, they have livestreams of both services online for those who are unable to attend in person. They have tons of community support programs including Laundry Love at the Super Laundry in Westwood/Cheviot, connections with My Neighbor's Place, a food pantry and free store, a Pokémon club for munchkins, bible studies, small groups, pickle ball teams, Sunday school, yoga during the week, and they even host the Westwood Farmer's Market in their parking lot. The pastor who speaks more often does a good job of being conscious of politics without pushing the church one way or another - just teaching them to have compassion and look like Jesus. Each weekly service usually has 3-5 verses from the Old Testament, 3-5 verses from the New Testament, and 3-5 verse from the psalms or proverbs, which the speaker weaves together. I have never heard a sermon that I would describe as "fire and brimstone," though I regularly feel convicted, not by shame, but by grace. On my first visit to the church, 3 people greeted me and made me feel welcome, only 1 of whom was a pastor, and genuinely asked me how I got connected with the church, what I did for a living, if I was married or had kids, and invited me to sit with them. The pastor even invited me to have lunch with her at the local pub (Nation Bar and Grill) so that I could ask questions about the church. Since then, I feel I have been welcomed into the community and although no one is perfect, this church does a really good job of welcoming all and working with each other to actually practice what they preach.
Filled with people who love God and other. The Bible says "We will know them by their love." You will find that kind of love here.
One of the most beautiful steeples I've ever seen in my life.
My kids have all gone to preschool there and participated in summer programs here. We're not members but really enjoy these services.
