What Parents Say
Westover Job Corps Head Start is a vocational training program for youth ages 16-24 that offers housing, meals, education, and trade certifications. Reviews are extremely polarized, with many graduates praising life-changing career opportunities and skill development, while others report significant issues with staff professionalism, facility conditions, and program support.
Unprofessional school with horrible staff who indulges in any and everything you can imagine. Bed bugs and roaches in the dorms. Medical staff who gaslight you and lie to protect the center. Drug use is rampant despite It being a drug free center. Students sleep with staff. The only positive thing about this center is the friends you make and the very short number of caring helpful staff (1-3) also if you can manage to avoid the drama and stress (nearly impossible) and take advantage of the benefits you can get your trade done did but other then that this center needs to be renovated and 98% of staff needs to be fired in order for it to change
Beautiful center horrible staff nothing to do after training day theres absolutly no jobs or chances for minors to spread as an adult other than a recreation center and rarely any activities, no comminication between staff or students the food is good when they feel like it. Staff dont get to know students or care about anything els other than attendance and keeping theirs scores so they can look good and go home at the end of the day
As an person with autism I went there and only stayed a day and a half because of how terrible this place is. I got lies to here saying they would help me but got no help and the RA administrator was not nice to me and put other kids before me. If you have kids with Autism and PTSD that have separation anxiety dont send them to this hellhole.
The sheer fact that student safety wasn’t a priority Ice was left on the ground for over a week. The staff don’t develop a better protocol when interviewing students. This place also seems too have a major identity crisis, it doesn’t know what it wants too be a boarding school for kids or a job training program. The funding makes the school just sad too look at. Dilapidated old buildings with asbestos dawn the school grounds. Another add on too the safety portion is my key got taken away during Christmas break. I don’t know anyone personally and I had my personal belongings in my room I was force too keep my door open because I had no key too get in. The way they terminate students isn’t right either. They have a probation period by the time they get in for an entire 2 weeks for CPP (Career Preparation Phase). Which means when students harass bully or act up towards someone. Then they have too wait after that entire 2 weeks too terminate said student. Summer of 2024 was the worst with record heat causing a massive uprising in heat strokes. They took an entire two months estimated time too set up something for cooling and AC so the dorms were scorching hot. The food was another issue some days it would be cooked right. Then some days it would be either greasy, undercooked, or over salted. With walker hall being built which is brand new dorms it’s going too have a communal restroom who knows what could go on in there. Too be honest this roach, mouse, and bed bug ridden place needs too be shut down and stop given so much praise by parents and students alike.
I was a student back in 2010, and Westover Job Corps Center became both my home and my school. When traditional education closed its doors for me, Westover Job Corps Center didn’t. While I was there, I was able to acquire a Computer Service Technician Certificate and a Massachusetts driver's license. Over the years, working as a computer technician, I’ve been able to buy a condo, own a car, and earn about $580,000 in 10 years with a trade. I could have accomplished even more, but comfort got the best of me, and I didn’t seek further opportunities. Overall, Westover Job Corps Center is an excellent place to start your career. While in the program, you receive housing, clothing, food, education, and free entertainment. They only ask that you give your best effort and avoid being problematic. It’s a great place to begin your journey.
