This place is the worst shelter ive ever been in or too this place is ridded with mice i wake up theres mouse shit everywhere and theres these spiders dont get me started about the leaks some people take showers outside they shower the city need to come and take this place down worst place ever how you cant have a ac with child in the crib on 109 degree day shit makes no sense two fans and whats that gonna do been here going on 10 mounths got a 4 month pregnant wife and a young son around 5
I was in this shelter it’s very good you can cook ur own Family meal it’s like living in an apartment they have a laundromat they have activities for the kids they also help kids with homework. The only thing that bad is some of the staffs have attitude problems and they take it out on you and some of the staff are cool 😎 And the workers they help with some stuff and with what they can some peoples say they pick and choose who they want to help but I didn’t really experience that this shelter is better then the shelter in white plains!!
i "lived" here as a kid around 99 and 00 and i loved this place. i didn't even know it was a shelter until some kid also a 5th grader was making fun of the people they thought probably lived there. around that time they had that giant playground. (or it seemed giant to me), they had a dance concert performance thing they had with all the kids. they help us come up with dance moves to aaliyah and r kelly songs (hey, this was before we knew ok lol) and they told the parents when the show was gonna happen and they all watch us and i was so happy. they also bought all the kids birthday presents. and cost didn't matter. i got a gameboy. and some other kid got a playstation (the first one lol). another kid wanted a big tv and they got it. oh and if you wanted a game station you got to choose one game you wanted too. and the last amazing thing i remember was they paid for us to go to a day camp in the summer. you could go in the morning or afternoon for maybe four hours or something. but that was an amazing memory i had. and this was all free. don't know if they still do this to this day but if they don't, they've lost their way.
It's a family shelter located in Mount Vernon, NY. The people and staff seem to be ok! I only go there as a volunteer to donate food on a monthly basis! I've never stayed there and don't know the inner workings of, or the people!
Really nice people and very clean you have your own united safe for kids
