What Parents Say
Note: Reviews appear to be for West Los Angeles College (a community college), not a child development center. Reviewers praise the campus facilities, online accessibility, and responsive staff, but report issues with infrastructure maintenance, inter-campus course coordination, and service delays.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I’ve been at West LA College for two years. Calling or emailing staff is consistently ignored. What could take 15 minutes over the phone turns into a 1 hour cross-town inconvenience just to get help and not be helped. When I finally reach someone, I encounter unprofessional behaviors such as counselors smelling strongly of marijuana and excuses for not answering, like ‘I was on lunch.’ Time-sensitive processes, especially for students and veterans relying on GI Bill and FAFSA funds for basic living needs, are a constant battle. The rage bait is real at WLAC. The ambiance feels like a funeral, which may explain why nothing runs efficiently. I now take all my classes at their sister school to avoid this campus. 0/10.
This is one of 9 LACCD colleges. I’ve earned several certificates in Real Estate and Hospitality. I attempted to also earn a certificate in Business, but some classes are only offered at one of the 9 other campuses - which is where a problem may arise. There is a 50/50 chance that you take your course at one of the 9 sister colleges and WLAC won’t accept it. This happened to me when taking Business English at ELAC because it’s hardly offered at WLAC. The district is not well correlated. I’m now finishing up turning my certificates into AA degrees. Financial Aid office is usually quick to respond to emails. Loans may be delayed a month into the semester. Cal Grants are also delayed 4-7 weeks in. Some grants like the Student Success Completion Grant are not always awarded like other colleges because the district runs out of state funds. Book store does not always carry your books which can make your EOPS voucher pointless. Overall, I love that I’m able to complete an AA degree online without having to attend in person. I just wish the school and district correlated their classes. I originally chose WLAC in 2022 because it was ranked as one of California’s best community colleges to obtain an AA degree online. You can also attend in person for many classes.
I was only there to watch a women's volleyball match, so I did not see very much of it. What I saw was nice. The gym was well taken care of and the bathroom was clean. Near the gym they have airplanes and at least 1 helicopter. Everyone I met there was nice. I only gave a 4 because my exposure was limited, but it looks very nice.
Ease of registration: -2000. No WiFi. No cell reception to hotspot. Bring all forms of ID in person. Ease of purchasing parking pass: -50. Daily in the lot. Cash in person or a ridiculous process by card, where they KEEP your CC on FILE. (Wth?) Parking availability: +500 yes slam dunk on that one Staff: -300 less than helpful. 1 was even unfriendly/creepy at the learning center. She asked for my SID and got WAY too personal and nosy with my file, under the guise of helping me. In ways I did NOT ask for. +200 for the kind lady at the business office, doing her best to help with the ridiculous parking pass process. -500 for the janitor who literally told me where to sit outside. That was weird Admissions: -500 spelled our name incorrectly. Sent to library for ID. Found out there the name was spelled incorrectly. Admissions refused to correct our name without a court order. Library refused to issue SID with correct name or corrections. All of this took over an hour. A 5 minute job incomplete, due to their incompetency -800 for the admissions trying to make us sign a form with our SS#, telling us to leave the form blank, and knowingly, changing our last name to an incorrect spelling without our permission when there was no reason for us to fill out that form. It was a large black woman who was head of an admissions pardon the descriptor I don’t know her name. Grounds: +50 Gorgeous. So many bugs, though. Could use more shade. Professors: +5000. Gracious. Helpful.
Is there a zero stars option? First time registration was soul crushing. One nightmare after another. We need a new word for horrific. 1990's website. So many glitches that deadline passed twice. They don't answer the phone. Nobody answers. Nobody cares. Person on chat went to lunch without saying a word. I waited and waited. I was on a chat for SIX hours and issue never resolved. It is easier to get to the moon and back than it is to register for a class here. The single worse registration experience EVER. I've been at this for nearly two months. Finally got the document signed by admissions but guess what? Class is now full. You cannot make this up. I would NEVER recommend this place. Not ever.
