WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Recently had to make the difficult decision to pull my children out of this daycare in the middle of the year. There are a couple good teachers here, but most of the staff is poorly trained and under qualified. We had a myriad of issues here, and the biggest issue is that the center is very understaffed. It’s chaotic every time you enter the building, with staff and children all over the place. You can usually find a bunch of babies sitting strapped in a buggy with the center director at the receptionist desk because they don’t have enough staff to properly take care of the children. The leadership team functions as teachers as a result of the center being constantly understaffed, and there’s little consistency with staff. Staff training is terrible. Communication is very poor. The center director, Catherine Capanelli’s handling of the situations with my children’s care was especially concerning, as she made little effort to resolve the issues or train staff, and would flat out ignore concerns and requests for clarification on school policies. Please find an alternate option for your child’s care. We did, as our kids deserve so much better. Wish I would’ve made the choice to remove them from this center when I first identified the issues.
My baby and toddler both attended this daycare for 4 months. They started calling me every week making complaints about my toddler. At first, the asst director was pushing me to get him evaluated. She stated that he doesn’t talk, he doesn’t understand and he just laughs at them while they’re talking to him. I took my son to 2 different doctors who said he’s just a toddler, he’s fine and the daycare needs more training on how to deal with toddlers. They began calling me every other day complaining about my son taking his shoes off, saying he requires too much attention, he’s climbing on the table, he is knocking down blocks, and pulling hair. My son has never exhibited these behaviors at home. The 2 directors had an issue with my son being attached to his teacher Ms. Alyssa, who is amazing and I have nothing but great things to say about her. They would tell me my son pulls hair of the other kids & knocks down their blocks. When I would watch the camera, i see other kids doing this to him & even jumping on my son… (which is typical for toddlers) but ofc they would just target him. I would ask his teachers how his day went and they would tell me it was great but the ladies at the front desk always had a report written up. My son loved his class and his teacher but the ladies at the front desk really made us feeling like he was an inconvenience to them because he had built a stronger rapport with Ms. Alyssa rather than the other staff. I spoke with another parent whose son attends this daycare and she told me they make the same complaints to her! I truly feel that they target families who pay through DSS. My baby was always sick every week since he started attending here, I know kids will get sick but the fact that he was always ill makes no sense. I would often drop my kids off and see other babies coughing with runny noses crying in their cribs. I tried my best to be patient but I realized the problem is the 2 ladies who run the center. Maybe hire someone who actually has children of their own so they can empathize with parents and understand why toddlers act the way they do, instead of calling me everyday about shoes being taken off. They treated my son different and it was very clear. You can also tell that they are not genuine, it’s very fake. Ms. Alyssa is the only teacher who I always had a positive interaction with and she seemed completely genuine and loving. My son used to come home dressed in clothes that weren’t his. I sent him with a north face jacket and they sent him home with someone else’s jacket and ignored my multiple requests in asking to locate his jacket. Lastly, they don’t change pampers as often as they claim and they do not follow a potty training schedule. My infant was always coming home with bad diaper rashes and I would send my toddler on with pull ups and he would return with diapers on. How am I supposed to effectively potty train him if he’s at daycare for 8 hours Monday - Friday and they’re not putting him on the potty ? I’m not the type of parent to nit-pick at every little thing but I needed to make other parents aware. Please avoid this center if you have a toddler who exhibits typical toddler like behaviors.
Horrible experience. My son came home with adult nail marks on his arm one day. Even with photos, they did nothing. One day I saw on the camera that my son was being held down on a mat to be forced to nap. They were calling me daily saying that my son is a problem because he is pulling hair when I would watch the camera like a hawk and saw other children doing the same things. The final straw for me was that I witnessed the teacher take his lunch away because he pushed another kid (he was 2 at the time!!!) and made him take a nap without eating. Major disservice to my son. Since I moved him to a new facility my son has been amazing, no behavioral issues, no phone calls. I pay over $100 less a week and the care is top notch, unlike this house of horrors. Staff is constantly changing. No curriculum whatsoever. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
My two boys have been at Tutor Time in Ronkonkoma since 2011. My youngest started in the infant room and my older son in the Toddler room. Now it's 2016, and my youngest will be graduating from the Junior Kindergarten program this coming June. My oldest who is now in 1st grade will still attend on occasion when his school has a snow closing or on other days when needed. He always has a lot of fun in the school age room. My husband and I couldn't have been more pleased with the years our children have had at this day care/school. The teachers are caring and passionate about what they do each and every day. Both of our boys have such great relationships with many of the staff. The director is always available via email or phone call. It has always been important to us that our children were in a safe learning environment while we had to be at work, Tutor Time has always gone above and beyond.
My son has been attending this school since he was three months old, and all I can say is that I am beyond thankful to have found them! Every teacher I have interacted with, in every classroom, has been professional, caring, and absolutely wonderful to work with. The director and assistant director of the center are incredible; they know each student and parent by name, and they keep us parents very well informed about every aspect of our child's education. My son is a little over two years old now, and people are constantly remarking on how well he speaks and behaves, and I am constantly giving Tutor Time credit for that! They go above and beyond in everything they do, and as difficult as it is bringing my child to a daycare, this staff not only makes it easy, but enjoyable! I highly recommend them!
