What Parents Say
Tom Thumb Academy receives highly polarized reviews. Most parents praise the caring staff, cleanliness, educational quality, and family-like atmosphere. However, some parents report serious concerns including understaffing, inadequate diaper changes, poor conflict resolution with children, and a director who prioritizes staff over child welfare.
We absolutely couldn’t have loved Tom Thumb more. I was able to spend three days in my daughters class, within that three days I was also able to see how not only her teacher handle things but the other teachers throughout the building and honestly, your children couldn’t get better care.It was such an amazing feeling to know that I could leave my babies there and they would get such wonderful people looking after them. Each person in that building truly deserves the world and all of them (including the directors) need to be given some grace because it’s truly a job not many can do. Thank you to all the directors and teachers for loving my babies (and me) so good! You all are absolutely amazing!! I will always suggest Tom Thumb to anyone.
Both of my daughters and my granddaughter went to Tom Thumb. I would not have sent them anywhere else. The owner/director is amazing and is so knowledgeable considering she is a retired kindergarten/ first grade teacher! The passion they ALL have for children is unwavering. This is the BEST daycare in Sampson Co. if not one of the best in the state. To be a Tom Thumb kid makes you part of their family!!
Would rate 0 stars if possible. The teachers are grossly underpaid leading to a major understaffing issue. 15 kids for one teacher is negligence. Very few teachers truly care about the children. My child had a soiled diaper several days when I went to pick him up in the afternoon. Staff is not properly trained to handle children. The director needs to retire and has no patience with kids.
I would not recommend this daycare to anyone. Not only did I repeatedly have the director tell me she could not have daycare workers quitting over my 3 year old, she also made statements that she is the reason her workers were wanting to quit. My daughter was repeatedly being bitten and getting upset with the other kids who I watched being mean to her every time I picked her up (snatching crayons, pushing her, biting), and when my daughter would get upset they did not want to deal with it. They repeatedly sent home other childrens clothes, she would come out with snot and dirt constantly dried to her face, shoes on the wrong feet all the time, bite marks. She also told me my child was “spitting” at people and kept sending her home. (She was sticking her tongue out)…she was THREE. So idk what 3 year old doesn’t do that. She said she couldnt have her employees dealing with bodily fluids like that because she doesn’t pay them enough for that…SHE IS THREE YEARS OLD MIND YOU. The director cares more about the people who work there than the children themselves. Do not recommend!
If your kids are not perfect little angels, don't take your kids here. They have zero remorse for any child that actually acts like a child and has real life feelings. I went from my 2 children being the problem children and being kicked out within a month with less than a weeks notice to a daycare where my children are loved and appreciated.
