What Parents Say
This is not a daycare center—it is a luxury ski resort hotel in Avon, Colorado. The reviews provided are for hotel, spa, and restaurant services, not childcare facilities.
Had a beautiful stay at the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch. The property and amenities are top notch. Truly a ski in and ski out property, with a beautiful slope side pool and hot tub. The spa was absolutely stunning and one of the best massages I have ever had. The bar and lobby restaurant were amazing. The apres scene is a lot of fun after a day on the slopes. Excellent customer service. Would highly recommend.
We were very disappointed with our stay. The service was mediocre and not what you would expect from a “5 star” hotel. Room service was extremely slow. We were pretty blown away by the fact that instead of coming to pick up the food when you’re done housekeeping just puts the dishes on the floor in the hallway. There were multiple days where we saw the same food sitting overnight. The pool area is pretty crappy. A couple of tiny hot tubs and a lukewarm pool. Everything was extremely overpriced. Even more so than a typical luxury hotel. If you’re going to use the ski school don’t stay here, stay in town to avoid the shuttles. Overall it was such a waste of money and not the romantic getaway we were hoping far.
This is a value based review. Stayed here for three nights in executive suite, peak ski season. I am used to high prices and not great service in Colorado. The location and essentially private lift with ski valet were highlights of our visit. Room was large size/generally acceptable but the beds were not comfortable. If you do one thing right in luxury hotel, should be the bed. House keeping came at very inconvenient times IMO, so we never had the room cleaned. The price gauging on their menus is ridiculous. Veuve was $350 a bottle…and served in plastic cups. Veuve at the Chophouse in BV was $130, served in a real bucket with ice and glass flutes. My interactions with staff were fine, nothing spectacular. This was also described as kid-friendly and there was no toy room or anywhere for kids under 5 to go. Also all 3 hot tubs were drained and spa was closed during our visit. There was no warning of this, or pre-communication. Would have booked elsewhere had we known, as we had 3 young children with us.
Ruined our Christmas - I’ve never been so miserable after spending so much money! We’ve stayed at this property a few times. This time it was shocking how we were treated. Generally, guests seemed to be more of an inconvenience to management and staff. It seems they may be having personnel issues. We felt that management was ineffective and staff very immature. We had a situation and needed some suggestions. No one did anything to support us. We weren’t asking them to move mountains; we needed help identifying some local services. I’m not sure they were qualified to do anything other than name restaurants. Despite the hotel, not being extremely full, it was difficult to find seating in places like the bar. Outdoor patios were rarely open. Facilities were showing wear and tear. One hot tub was fully drained. The concierge is largely useless. They literally make reservations on OpenTable for you. Nothing more. We canceled most on-site services and dining. We spent as much time away from the property as we could. There are other really nice, smaller hotel properties in Beavercreek. The skiing is great. Don’t stay here.
I recently had the misfortune of staying at The Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch, and I must say that the customer service fell far short of what one would expect from a luxury hotel. Upon check-in, I was informed that I could not receive an upgrade because I booked using the Explore discount. When I asked if this was a Marriott-wide policy or specific to this location, the agent insisted it was Marriott policy. This was puzzling, especially since I had just checked out that morning from The Hythe Resort in Vail, where I received a complimentary upgrade without issue. After some back-and-forth, the agent retracted his earlier statement, allowing for a potential upgrade to Club access. However, he quoted me an increased rate per night from my original rate. When I sought clarification, he assured me that the new rate included both my room upgrade and Club access. I reluctantly signed a document he presented, believing it to be in alignment with our discussion. To my dismay, the final bill reflected my original standard room rate per night, plus an additional fee for Club access over two nights more than DOUBLING MY BILL. Which was far from what we had discussed. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, he displayed a complete lack of empathy and offered no resolution. Instead, he reiterated my use of the Explore discount as if I should accept this poor treatment without complaint. His response was “you signed the agreement, and there’s nothing I could do” was particularly disappointing and dismissive. I asked him to charge my card so I didn’t have to deal with the disrespectful experience any longer. Additionally, my experience at the spa was similarly frustrating. I was charged for services I did not receive and was not allowed to add my own gratuity; they included it without even asking. To make matters worse, the hot tub and steam room were both out of order during my stay. However, they did remove those extra charges from the spa. Overall, this was the worst hospitality experience I have encountered anywhere, not just in Vail. With an alarming 13% decline in occupancy, it’s clear that they are struggling to maintain customer satisfaction. Moving forward, I would rather go travel overseas for skiing and snowboarding than return here. Better hospitality can be found elsewhere, even at more affordable prices including the flights. However, if you do decide to stay at this resort. For your own sake. Please make sure you meticulously check your final bill before you leave.
