What Parents Say

The Kid's Connection receives mostly positive feedback from long-term parents who praise the caring staff, cleanliness, and safety measures. However, one parent disputes the facility's decision to permanently terminate their child based on an unwitnessed incident on the transport van, citing lack of due process and an opportunity for behavioral correction.

This daycare is just the best, the teachers are so caring and the owners are too! We have been going over five years now, I have two children there! I wouldn’t want them to go anywhere else! Also I never have to worry about their safety which is a huge deal to me! There is a review on here from a fellow parent whose child was taken out for hitting another child! With that being said it was my child who was hit in the face with her lip being busted!! She has never been in any trouble of any kind at any school. She is only in kindergarten and the other child was in 3rd or 4th grade!!

Love, love, love this daycare! definitely the CLEANEST daycare and they're so loving to the children. I have never questioned the safety of my children there. The staff has always been very helpful & involved. They also provide great meals for the kids! This is by far the BEST daycare in Shallotte area.

My daughter seemed well cared for during the short time she was allowed to attend. In saying that, My daughter was on the van (which the owner was driving that day) which took her from her school to their facility. A younger child made a negative comment about her hair, and my daughter made the poor choice to start waving her hair in that child’s face because of it. The owner said she had to pull the bus over because of it, which I’m sure had become an altercation between both children at that point. A couple of students on the bus said that my daughter hit the younger child. The owner said she did not see my daughter hit the child, yet that was enough for her to terminate my daughter from attending the facility permanently. At the time she told me, I was upset (an honestly shocked) and took my daughter home. The more I thought about it, I felt it was a very harsh and drastic punishment for a first time serious incident. I called the next day to speak with the owner to get some clarification and she was not there. I was going to call back later, however, I saw where she credited my account and realized there was no use. Do I think my daughter deserved punishment of some sort for the incident? Absolutely. But I hope the younger child was spoken to as well because she wasn’t in the right either. I know it’s not a good thing to be disruptive on the childcare van and it can be dangerous. Maybe the owner could have spoken to me about it so she could have given me a chance to help resolve the issue instead of the first words she said to me being“so we are terminating (insert name)” before I knew anything about it. I was blind-sighted! Besides my daughter and other girls bickering back and forth (normal little girl drama on all sides) this has been the only serious incident she has had. So Do I believe she deserved to be terminated (with no chance of being able to attend again) because of an alleged slap to the face that wasn’t witnessed by any staff and was only believed due to the word of another student? Absolutely not. If the owner would have witnessed my daughter hitting her, that would have been one thing. I wasn’t by offered to see any camera footage from the van. I was offered no proof that she hit the child. I’m not saying my child is perfect in any means. She should have let the comment about her hair go instead of waving her hair in the child’s face and causing a disruption. But she is a child. Children get easily upset, even if it’s a comment about their hair. They are kids, not adults. They don’t handle being bullied like adults do. Also, my child doesn’t use physical violence unless necessary. She has been in karate for over two years, where she has always been taught to only hit or kick in physical self-defense situations. And if she full-fledged hit the child (which I was told she did and, like I already said, I was offered no proof of) it would have been pretty drastic seeing that she was a lot older and stronger than the younger child. I was told there was a small mark. My daughter admitted to waving her hair in her face but swore she didn’t hit her. Waving her hair in the child’s face is something she would most definitely do, but I know she didn’t hit her. But I guess when you have a huge waiting list, it’s easy to kick one out and bring another one in. At that point, it’s a number, not a human being. I’m truly shocked that my daughter is permanently banned after one incident that wasn’t witnessed by any staff member. These are elementary school-aged children, not robots. At least give kids (and parents) a chance to correct a behavior before kicking them out after strike one! I’m sure the owner will explain this by saying that I’m just an irate parent who had a misbehaving child. I’ve always been an easy going parent. Like I said before, my child isn’t perfect and the bus incident needed to be addressed. She didn’t have multiple “offenses.” It wasn’t addressed. She was terminated. No proof. No discussion. No chance. It’s sad that my child has been made to feel like a bad kid due to one incident.

A wonderfully safe environment! Operated by a very loving and caring owners and staff. I found that the owners worked for the prior owners, and took over years ago. Also, found that many of their staff have been on board for many, many years. God bless you all for loving and taking care of my grandson! Carol Hamilton
