The Children'S Garden Primary School

This school was a wonderful place to introduce my children to school curriculum prior to entering kindergarten. It provided a safe space with individualized attention meeting my children where they were. The balance of focused taking and outdoor free play kept my kids engaged. I ended up leveraging the after school care because my kids did not want to leave. My now fifth grader and 1st grader chose to participate in one of the summer camps this past summer and often ask when they can stop by to visit. I still keep in touch with the teachers who helped prepare my kids with a love of learning! I am so glad I found this school and appreciate that they treat each class and each child as a fresh new experience with their own needs/interests/desires.

My son had a great experience here for one year in the 5 year old room…the one on one attention he got was unmatched and he is much more confident and prepared now to start kindergarten this year! The teachers there are loving and understanding while also maintaining a structured environment. They do a great job of embracing kid’s personalities and interests (mine is very high energy!) and meeting kids where they are developmentally. I also loved how much they played outside/in nature throughout the day. The before and after school options are also beneficial if you need more than the 9-3 school day…we are very thankful we got to spend one year at CG!

Both my children attended The Children's Garden for 3 years, and after 6 consecutive years as a Garden Family I cannot recommend the school highly enough. Each child is met where they are socially, emotionally, and academically. Every teacher is unfailingly calm (I aspire to their level of chill, truly!), warm, and loving. I can't say enough good things about Children's Garden, and the time that my family spent there. Each of my 2 kids spent 2 years there and between the two of them we went through every classroom. The teachers are loving and kind; they manage classrooms of 3, 4, and 5 year olds with ease, caring and unending patience. I felt so lucky to find a school that shared our values for the kids' early education. They were able to spend so much time outside and explore so many fun topics throughout the years. We met so many awesome families through CG, it really became like a second Blacksburg family. I would highly recommend Children's Garden to any family for their preschool needs.

During my daughter's three years at Children's Garden, we had an incredibly fulfilling experience. Transitioning into school life after a year of COVID-related isolation and preparing for the arrival of a new baby was overwhelming, but the staff provided support that helped us navigate these changes. Every year the teachers went above and beyond to make each day a joyous exploration of their abilities through play, lots and lots of art, spending time in nature and building relationships. The staff definitely planted a seed of curiosity; my daughter would come home proud of what she had discovered and wondering what else there was to learn! Now, as she begins kindergarten, I can see the confidence she has gained from her time at Children's Garden. I am immensely grateful for the nurturing and supportive foundation that has prepared her for this new chapter.
