What Parents Say

Reviews are mixed and contradictory, ranging from 1-5 stars. This appears to be an ACS (Administration for Children's Services) emergency shelter facility, not a traditional daycare. Some reviewers praise staff dedication and provision of essentials, while others report serious safety concerns, staff misconduct, and poor conditions.

I send my daughter here to get help. They do not help The staff talk to the children like their animals. My daughter called me at 11:15 PM. They had her locked out and wouldn’t let her in the building they grown woman and men messing with kids. . This is their job to take care of children who have issues and instead of doing that they’re making things worst. I need to get my daughter out immediately.

My experience at the ACS facility at 492 1st Ave was extremely unsafe and unprofessional. Staff cursed at us, mocked me for stuttering, and one staff member even threatened to take me to another room and beat me up, saying he would lie and claim I hit him first. The conditions are terrible — the shower floor is rocks, the food is awful, and communication with the outside is barely allowed. There were rats in the cafeteria, and staff ignored theft and fights happening right in front of them. My belongings were thrown around by other residents while staff focused on not having to writing a incident report instead of safety. At night it’s loud, chaotic, and impossible to sleep. This place does not feel supportive or secure for any kid and needs serious investigation.

Horrible customer service, I don't know who I spoke to but her attitude was nasty. I called to see if someone worked there so I can connect with them and she didn't provide me with that information and hung up in my face in the most rude way and when I asked for her name after I called back she didn't want to give that information to me. She was very rude. I will never call and seek help from them again. Especially, if I'm in the city/state. I'm very disgusted.

This facility has been a disappointing experience. During my children's transition, their belongings were not properly handled, and I had to travel from out of state to pick them up. To make matters worse, staff stole my children's brand new shoes and replaced them with used ones old and dingy. Why did my kids even have to take off their shoes in the first place? It’s heartbreaking to see how these kids are treated like they don’t matter. Had I not called for my children's things, they would've just put it in lost and found because they wouldn’t take the extra step to send it off as people are transitioning out. NYC is messy, and the person who stole my children's shoes is a low life. Who Steals from children this affects kids. They deserve so much better!

i was here for two days, i was also here for a night threee years ago ( to make it clear i am not currently in a negtive home situation, it was more of a hospital thing that had acs involved. ) The place is not a bad place, most bad reviews come from parents who are mad they couldn’t take care of there kids correctly. At first glace the staff may seem rude or mean but its literally just there face, they have been there for unspeakable crazy hours dealing with all types of people and children, if you are respectful and kind they will give you exactly that, i can only imagine them being rude if you are being rude aswell. When i first arrived there they searched my stuff and made me walk threw a metal dector which was weird and an inconvenience but extremely understandable for safety reasons. once i was inside the building with my younger preteen sister we had to wait a while until we got upstairs with our groups, we were separated because of our ages but i got to visit her frequently. They gave us a huge duffle dag of clothes and essentials , and brand sneakers, my little sister asked for some panda dunks and they gave her some, they had a hair program and alot of things of that sort, if a child was staying here for a while and u didnt know them you wouldnt be able to tell. threw out the day was boring bc we js sat in a rec room but the other girls make it less boring, we lisnted to music and wacth movies, some times we would js sleep inside the rec room (we stay in the rec room unil 10pm) the food there wasnt bad but wasnt good it was okay, its that type of food that if you were badly you would enjoy it, they also give other shit so if u dont want that u can get ceral or fruit. the dont leave you trapped the entire time your able to leave but you have to come back in 24hrs. some of the girls did make me feel uncomfortable but its something you just newd to put your big girl panties on for, be able to defend urself but stay of the way .as a child there once ur outside your free to do whatever. overall this wasnt a bad nor best experience it was okay, if you were coming from a terrible home this place would be your heaven. you get everything in there you need in more your never missing anything.
