Our child has attended Texas Spanish Academy for 4 years from 2 years of age (AW Grimes campus). We do not speak Spanish but wanted our son to acquire the Spanish language. Our initial worries were that since we don't speak Spanish at all, our child would be behind in terms of speaking and won't be able to make friends or express their needs at the daycare. In addition, most of the teachers did not speak English (this is very important for the kids to acquire the Spanish language). We soon realized that out worries were unfounded. All the teachers our child had were all very loving and alert to my childs' needs. The teachers kept a very fun and friendly classroom environment and my child was able to make many friends at TXSA. Through the 4 years of attendance, my child can now speak fluent Spanish (trips to Mexico have always surprised the locals and earned our child countless praises about his Spanish), learned to read and write the alphabet, and have started reading simple Spanish words. Aside from Spanish, my child was also able to acquire social skills and learned how to make friends even with language barriers. Our child loves going to TXSA everyday. Now our 2nd child is in attendance as well. TXSA also provides a variety of activities such as parents night out (TXSA will look after the kids from 6:30PM-9:00PM so the parents can enjoy an undisturbed dinner), parties at school for parents and grandparents to join in on the fun with the kids, etc. Parents nights out was always the favorite of me and my wife. TXSA also has parent-teacher 1:1s for the parents to better understand how their kids are doing in the daycare, this was especially important for us since we did not speak Spanish (TXSA would have translators for us no Spanish speaking parents) and this direct communication with the teachers were limited. We really loved TXSA and appreciate everything they have done for our child. if you are looking for a Spanish immersion daycare that is caring and really tries to have kids learn Spanish, I would strongly recommend considering TXSA.
Our 2.5 year old son has been attending TSA since he was 8 months old and our daughter just started at 5 months in March. We absolutely LOVE the teachers here, they put so much love and care into the activities they plan for the children and to the children themselves. Even after my son moved on to different rooms his past teachers come to say hi if they are leaving during pickup or happen to work as a sub the new room. I've found that communication with the Director and owners has been great. They are always open to feedback to ensuring our children are cared for.
We had our children at TSA for four years until my son entered kindergarten. As a general rule, we did like our teachers who did primarily speak Spanish to the kids. There was high turnover, but this is typical of the childcare industry in general. My kids did learn Spanish and were prepared to enter a better Spanish-immersion school once we left TSA. The bad: the communication is not great, and if you're looking for a daycare with an organized learning curriculum, you need to spend additional dollars and look elsewhere. As your child gets older, you will stop receiving organized updates on their progress. If you are looking for a daycare that will tell you if your child is progressing appropriately for their age, learning letters, shapes, etc., go elsewhere. These updates do not come in Brightwheel. Prior to COVID, there were parent teacher conferences, but these had vanished by the time we left in mid-2022. I've stayed in touch with other parents still there, and it seems like these have resumed...sort of? There was one for the entire past year (2023-24), so perhaps you'll get a single progress report on your child. TSA would also randomly hold "events" in the afternoon at 2 or 3pm, and these events would often be announced days in advance. If parents could not make it because it's hard to adjust your work schedule two days in advance, your child would be SOBBING in the classroom that their mom or dad didn't make it to the ad hoc luncheon. The unspoken expectation was that you took your child home after these events. TSA recently announced they'd offer summer camp for K-5 kids who were former TSA attendees. A form was made available and then...nothing. TSA has literally vanished on parents who submitted the form - I followed up multiple times, resulting in an email titled "Response Requested" with the director looped in that finally got a response, but with no details and no answers to the questions I actually asked. For comparison, I reached out to INIC, who responded within a few hours. Finally, during COVID, TSA implemented a policy that when a class was required to close, all families in that class would receive tuition back for the days closed...EXCEPT for the family of the child who tested positive first. Re-read that. Yes, that was the real policy. When I pointed out to the director that this was incentivizing parents to lie about their child's illness, she told me no parent would lie to her and heavily implied this was a me problem. I connected with other parents in class on the policy, and they were surprised to learn the policy existed because it had been buried in a long email of COVID requirements. For comparison, our daughter now attends Magellan International School preschool and will enter kindergarten next year. We can tell a significant difference in her learning development compared to TSA - we attend three formal parent teacher conferences a year, we get weekly email blogs, and events that parents are expected to attend are announced significantly in advance and parents get multiple reminders to either be present OR bring their child late to avoid the sobbing situation TSA repeatedly created. It is both farther and more expensive for us, but seeing the difference made me aware of how much TSA does not provide in terms of both learning and structure for the kids. All that said, we stayed at TSA because our children had formed strong friendships there over the years, and we wanted to limit their transitions as we approached elementary school. I don't think TSA is a bad option - to be honest, it's an average, 3 star daycare, and that's what you're getting.
We have been bringing our daughter to TX Spanish Academy for almost 2-months now and all I have to say are great things. Yesica at the front desk is amazing. Esmeralda, the director is awesome and very responsive. The teachers Marcela and Sonia are hands down the best, so much so that I want them to move up to the next age group with my daughter haha! This is the first time my daughter has been in a daycare so I went on 2 tours and they were so patient with me, answered all my questions and all my husbands. They have an app so we can see what they are doing throughout the day, when our daughter eats, is changed, if there is an incidents (like she falls and scrapes her knee). Out of all the research I did, TX Spanish Academy comes out first every time! They have part time options which is what we started off with (that lasted all of a week) then we jumped into full time! Best decision EVER. Plus it is 100% Spanish, so my daughter is learning a second language at the same time. So without hesitation, I recommend Texas Spanish Academy HIGHLY!!!!
TXSA has been an excellent school for my child. The staff and admin team truly have become our second family. The level of care and communication we have experienced is significantly better than previous daycares my child has attended. I appreciate how TXSA goes out of their way to get to know families and help them feel included, through the community events hosted throughout the year. We are blessed to be a part of the TXSA school family.
