What Parents Say
Temple Shaaray Tefila is praised as a warm, welcoming progressive Jewish congregation with caring clergy and strong community programming. Parents appreciate its inclusive atmosphere and lifecycle support. However, some reviews raise concerns about Hebrew school teaching quality and high membership costs.
Disgusting. Treated like complete trash by this place. Not very inclusive when you are screaming at people to not stand infront of the building on a public sidewalk. Literally two women just standing on the sidewalk. This guy didn’t want us there though there were dozens of other people around its NYC. They do not own the sidewalk yet the security guy claimed HE owned the building. Just before I started recording, he was screaming at me that I couldn’t stand in-front saying he owned the property. I was with my Jewish friend waiting in front. A church would never ask someone sheltering from cold and rain while waiting for a ride to not stand infront of the building which is owned by the city. The sidewalk is a public place. He even made an insinuating comment that we were waiting for a bus as if it was beneath him.
Shaaray Tefila is such a warm and welcoming synagogue. The clergy have been caring and inspiring through all of my lifecycle events, and I have met wonderful people in the congregation.
I have been a member for over 20 years and my involvement keeps growing. I’ve made so many new friends and we have amazing programming. This is such a warm & welcoming community. My friends at other UES congregations don’t describe their temples in this way.
Beautiful progressive Temple,Rabbi very friendly and informative. We attended a wedding here and we were very impressed with the entire service as well as the food and music after the service.
Went to Hebrew school here and was BarMitzavh’d here. They hold great services and know how to fill a room. When I was a student in the Hebrew school the teachers were terrible and could not teach all. For the years I was there getting my Bar Mitzvah I had a great tutor and was well prepped. They made me fill out paperwork to teach Hebrew high school. Not a great school and wouldn’t send my kid here as a father. They are to expensive and to join there temple it’s an arm and a leg.
