I've been a member for a few years now and Love our Y! I've learned that the Y is a non profit orgazation, and if I see something that needs improvement, the will allow me to help with maintanence and janitoral. It takes us all to make it a success. Getting involved makes me feel better and more like a part of the Y.
The gym seemed a bit small. Other facilities were very nice
We have been with the YMCA for many years now. Recently though we are wondering if we should withdraw our membership. Seems here lately that there is never a life guard on duty any more. Something needs to be done about this or maybe we should get a refund for our membership? Retire military Chief
I recently joined the Y because my workout needs have changed and I require a pool for my joint disorder (and the aqua arthritis class has been AMAZING for me and it’s a fun group). Telford YMCA may lack in “modern design” (which I actually like aesthetically), but it more than makes up for it with the amazing amenities and lovely staff!! Alisha at the front desk is so welcoming and genuine, and Julie who teaches yoga and Pilates is an amazing instructor! I have found the Y to be a very friendly and respectful place to achieve my workout goals.
A few weeks ago, my family and I visited with the sole purpose of signing up for a membership. We were already set on joining and didn’t need any convincing. Unfortunately, our experience during that visit completely changed our minds. As a small example—setting aside larger concerns like building, infrastructure, cleanliness —when we asked a straightforward question about child care hours, the staff member we spoke with seemed distracted, appearing more focused on her earbuds than on assisting us. While it’s understandable that not everyone will have all the answers immediately, it was disappointing that she didn’t make any effort to find the information—despite having a computer in front of her. Instead, she asked another employee, who also didn’t know. Both responses we received boiled down to a dismissive “I don’t know; it’s on the website.” We left feeling frustrated, and my wife folded up the signup form as we walked out. This experience was a stark reminder of why we canceled our membership three years ago. While we understand we could have looked up the hours ourselves, it was the lack of basic customer service that left us questioning whether this was the right fit for our family. We hope this feedback is helpful and can inspire some improvements in customer interactions, as we genuinely wanted to rejoin.
