What Parents Say
Sunshine House Duncan receives consistently high ratings from parents who praise the caring staff, engaging curriculum, and safe environment. Parents particularly highlight directors Heather and Melodee's leadership and communication. One former staff member provided detailed insights into operational challenges including staffing ratios and behavioral management policies.
My son has been going to sunshine house of Duncan for 2 1/2 years- since he was 6 months old! I can’t say it’s been perfect- but nowhere is! We’ve had some billing issues, but I’ve always been able to get them corrected. There was a period of months where staffing was a big issue and my sons class hit capacity around 8am every morning, which made it where several days I had to make other arrangements for childcare last minute which was very frustrating, but the last few months it’s gotten back to normal! Most of the staff is very friendly and loves my son to death! Miss Toya is our FAVORITE! I think she may be the only teacher that has been there since the beginning, and my son adores her! She better not ever leave! Haha! My son has truly learned so much from attending, he comes home and amazes me everyday with how much he is learning!
I have been very scared to put my little one in daycare because I haven't used daycare system since my oldest which is 14 was 2 years old themselves so 12 years. And the first week was a little rough because she wasn't used to it. But they did such a great job at helping her adjust. And now she's got teachers that are her favorite teachers and she's only been there a handful of weeks and I just can't say how happy I am with how this process went and how comfortable I feel dropping her off now. It's been a blessing in disguise!
There is a reason this specific sunshine house has ratings so much worse than every other location in the brand. They let your kids get bit, refuse to intervene or remove problem kids from classes, and seem to have some reason to charge fees or other extra expenses just about every week. The management staff are terrible to interact with, they treat parents poorly, and they are severely incompetent. Excuses, hostile interactions, and generally bad at their jobs. Oh and the kicker? Your kids are gonna have 8 teachers per year if you take them to this joke of a daycare, because they fire teachers for even the smallest things. Teacher prevents a kid from beating or biting another child? Fired. Teacher lets your kids nap a little too long? Fired. They hemorrhage staff because they have insane expectations, and there is no stability whatsoever in the care your child will receive. Go to a different daycare. These people suck.
⭐☆☆☆☆ I do not recommend Sunshine House in Duncan. We dealt with ongoing staffing issues that sometimes made it impossible to drop off our child as scheduled. There were frequent safety concerns, including toddlers as young as 21 months being placed in the same room with 5- and 6-year-olds. On multiple occasions, kitchen staff were left supervising children in the kitchen, which was extremely concerning from a safety and supervision standpoint. What made the situation worse was the complete lack of communication from staff and management. Our questions were routinely ignored, teacher changes happened without any notice, and there were no updates provided to parents about what was going on inside the facility. As a parent, I expect a safe, stable, and transparent environment — unfortunately, Sunshine House did not meet those expectations.
Original: My kids love it here. Very clean rooms and friendly staff. ❤️ Edit: my kids love it but the daycare can't keep teachers employed. The strict rules for teachers and loose rules for the children create a serious issue where teachers are fired for the littlest things and the children are allowed to continue biting and hitting other kids with no issue. My kids have been happy but we're all tired of the constant employee rotation and my children being injured.
