Consider Carefully for Your Child’s Development My wife and I are both college-educated professionals with full-time careers, and we entrusted Sunny Side Childcare in Lithopolis with our son’s care starting when he was just 3 months old. He remained enrolled full-time for a little less than 2 years, spending the majority of his social and developmental time in this environment. Recently, he was removed from the program due to behavior concerns such as pulling hair, biting, and hitting. While these reports were documented, we did not observe the same behaviors at home or in family settings. This raised concerns for us about whether the reports were fully accurate or perhaps exaggerated. After two years of consistent attendance with many of the same peers, the sudden and severe pattern of behaviors described did not align with what we had experienced ourselves. Adding further concern, two recently departed employees independently told us they felt our son was a great child. Hearing this not only conflicted with the reports we received, but also made us question the overall integrity of the facility. We also could not help but question the timing. Around the same period, our infant daughter joined the program and we received a sibling discount as well as grandfathered tuition rates from our initial enrollment. It left us wondering if financial considerations — making space for higher-paying attendees — may have influenced the decision to remove our son and infant daughter. Whether the behavior reports were fully accurate or not, one fact remains: our son spent nearly his entire early life under the care and supervision of this facility. If he did develop these behaviors, they developed here. That, in itself, is concerning and something prospective families should weigh carefully. Additionally, parents should be aware of the outdoor play area. The surface is made of a black material — either degraded mulch or recycled rubber — that leaves children covered in residue after outside play. On more than one occasion, our son came home looking like a coal miner, which raised questions for us about cleanliness and safety. His nostrils were full of black dust. I wonder how much he has inhaled? For prospective families: We encourage you to ask specific questions about how behavior challenges are addressed, what role parents play in the process, and how the center balances discipline with developmental support. These early years are too important to leave to chance, and the right environment can make all the difference. Our experience was disappointing, but I hope sharing it helps other families make an informed decision.

Sunny Side Child Care is absolutely incredible! The staff here are some of the most kind, caring, and professional individuals I’ve ever met. From day one, they made my child feel welcome, safe, and loved, which is every parent’s dream. The environment is clean, nurturing, and full of activities that encourage growth and learning. I’m constantly amazed by how amazing their team is. The staff go above and beyond to communicate with parents and ensure that each child gets the attention and care they deserve. I can’t recommend Sunny Side Child Care enough—it truly feels like a second family. If you’re looking for a place that combines warmth, professionalism, and a genuine love for children, this is it!

My wife and I had our first child this past year. I cannot speak highly enough of Megan and staff here. It is nerve wrecking picking a daycare , let alone the first time you have ever had to. To entrust your child in someone else's care is very vulnerable. What i can say from this past year is ; 1) The staff truly care for my son like he is their own. I have so much peace of mind knowing he is there. 2) My son loves it ! He thoroughly enjoys his time there and is a really outgoing boy for only being 14 months old, i credit some of that to the interactions he has a daycare, and the different activities they have for him. 3) The staff is extremely accessible which is great, we get updates throughout the day with pictures and videos of our child. If we ever have a question or concern they respond extremely quick , again this goes back to peace of mind 4) The daycare is very well maintained i see them constantly cleaning and making sure everyone stays healthy and happy If you are looking for a daycare, Sunny Side is by far an outstanding choice, and if you are a first time parent I hope you read this and find some comfort knowing that as hard as it is to do the staff is so kind, caring, and attentive it really will put your mind at ease.
