What Parents Say
Sunflowers Christian Preschool in Royal Oak receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from most parents who praise the nurturing, loving environment and balanced approach to academics and socialization. However, one parent reported that staff failed to adequately address their child's discomfort with a teacher and prioritized reputation over resolution.
My daughter attended preschool here when she was 3 & 4. My daughter, having never spent time away from me before starting school, was very apprehensive (& so was I). I could not have chosen a better place for her. She was nurtured & loved, & made wonderful friendships. We were so sad to leave Sunflowers, but I will always be thankful for the beautiful introduction to school she got from the tremendous teachers here.
As an elementary school teacher I'm fully aware of the importance of education and socialization. So when it came to finding the best pre-school to fit our family, I visited many. Royal Oak has many to offer from ones that concentrate on academics and others learning through play. I knew in my heart as soon as I visited and spent the day with the Sunflower staff this was where my children would go. Sunflower has a wonderful balance between learning academics, socializing and nurturing. At anytime you could walk into the classroom and find children sitting on the laps of the staff and hugs for all. It was important that I found a place for my children to learn but to find a love for learning. Their first school experience had to be a positive one. I'm so thankful to everyone at Sunflower. Both of my children loved Sunflower and looked forward to going everyday.
My daughter Sydney attended Sunflowers preschool for 2 years and we couldn't have been happier. Sydney was reluctant to start school because she was pretty shy in nature but she flourished because of the caring and patient teachers at Sunflowers. She still talks about preschool and the friends she has made to this day. One of the best decsions we have ever made!
Was incredibly grateful for the experience my child had while attending both 3 year old and 4 year old preschool at Sunflowers. The engaging, loving, supportive environment helped him start his education on the right foot. He's now 10 (2018) and thriving in so many ways.
I couldn't imagine giving a "Christian" preschool a 1-star rating, but here we are. My 4-year-old son first attended the three-year-old program and we thought it was OK enough to enroll him the following year in the four-year-old program. The website claims that children learn to play, share and develop their fine motor skills in a loving, nurturing environment, but my son became uncomfortable with one of his teachers whom he didn't find very nurturing. This is where the preschool utterly and completely failed to live up to their promise. We met with the teachers and staff and attempted to convey our son's concerns with the hope that this group of people with years of experience running a preschool would reassure us and our child, but instead they were more concerned with their reputations. Here is the church's mission statement..."We share the Word and demonstrate the love of the Spirit, working and praying for people to experience healing, reconciliation, and transformation." My wife decided the school was not living up to this mission statement and after much stress and anxiety she reluctantly removed our son from the preschool. I supported my wife in this decision, but I felt this is where the school could have lived up to their supposed standards and found a way to reconcile with my son & wife. They did not express too much grief that my son would not finish with his class nor did they attempt to offer my wife alternatives or promises to work through the problem. As such, we are attempting to find a preschool for my son to attend the rest of the year ... and it's nearly March. This puts us all in an inconvenient position and all over what should have been a minor disagreement and a resolvable concern.
