Sunbrook Academy at Stockbridge receives consistently positive feedback from parents, with all recent reviews rating 5/5 stars. Parents report significant improvements in their children's happiness, learning engagement, and behavior after switching from other facilities. Staff members, particularly the director and teachers, are frequently praised for their attentiveness, warmth, and genuine care.
I had both of my children enrolled at Sunbrook Academy for about 2–3 months. During my initial tour with Eboni (the interim Director at the time), I was very impressed. She was professional, thorough, and gave us confidence in the program. The classrooms were clean, organized, and appeared well-managed, which made us feel comfortable enrolling our 1- and 3-year-old. Unfortunately, our actual experience did not align with what we were promised. The biggest issue was communication. We were told that teachers consistently used the parent app for daily updates, photos, and checklists. In reality, the app was rarely updated, and getting even basic information (like lunch details, accidents, or why my child came home in different clothes) required constant follow-up. When they did upload photos of my daughter specifically, they photos her doing absolutely nothing. Not playing with toys, not finger painting- literally they sent photos of her doing nothing. Shift notes were nonexistent, and when teachers transitioned, important details were not passed along and the items they were sent to school with scattered across several classrooms as they bounced from class to class daily. Another concern was classroom management. Children were often combined into other rooms, which meant belongings were scattered and pick-up was disorganized. More concerning, infants were placed in the same space with mobile toddlers wearing shoes, which felt like a hygiene and safety risk. On the curriculum side, there seemed to be no consistent structure. When I asked about daily schedules or developmental goals (colors, shapes, routines, etc.), the response was vague. My 3-year-old, who had already been reading and was eager to learn, began to regress—he stopped articulating clearly and showed little enthusiasm for schoolwork. While he loved his teacher and classmates, the academic piece was very disappointing. Nutrition and meal management were also problematic. Despite submitting a doctor’s note and repeatedly requesting updates on my son’s eating (he works with a food therapist), communication remained inconsistent. The new Director’s focus was more on critiquing what we packed for lunch than on ensuring proper communication or supporting our concerns. Meals and snacks provided by the school were insufficient, leaving our children hungry by the end of the day. I spoke with other parents who shared the same concern. Finally, I noticed high staff turnover, and on more than one occasion, parents were asked to fill in as teachers—an indication of serious staffing challenges. My children also came home multiple times in soiled clothes or soaked diapers, which was unacceptable given the tuition cost. In summary, while Sunbrook Academy is a beautiful facility on the surface, I found it to be a facade. Behind the clean classrooms, there is a lack of consistency, poor communication, minimal curriculum, and little regard for the overall well-being of the children. For the price charged, I expected much higher standards.
I had my child enrolled for summer school paying an in my opinion exhorbitant amount but I loved her teacher Imani and she did wonderful with her even though I butted heads with the aggression of the then director Nicole. Upon the final weeks of the summer I was informed that if she continued for the fall via the lottery program it would be free so I said let’s give it a try instead of taking her back to her regular school. Unfortunately however my child was mistreated, verbally abused and consistently tormented by a teachers aide named Danielle. On several occasions I’ve walked in on her berating or yanking around my 4 year old SPEECH IMPAIRED CHILD while she sits there wailing in a corner in tears. Every time I expressed a concern she would seem to get even more vindictive take it out old child to the point where I had to pull my child out of school due to the uneasiness I felt leaving her in their care. Management tried to hold several meetings with the main teacher Brittany who again was wonderful and agreed that this was ridiculous and unacceptable but ultimately they were not fruitful. It seemed as Danielle faced no repercussions and everyone was scared of her and to hold her accountable. To this day I’ve not gotten an apology directly from her and I just want to let all of you upper management know an apology on behalf of this atrocious woman is not an apology she’s obviously not sorry and kept up her bullshit. I’ve written and communicated via phone sometimes even in tears with the current director and every time I asked for the alleged camera recordings it was always an excuse week after week. There’s even a time my daughter came home in the same diaper I sent her to school in and on this particular day only ms wicked Danielle was there so it boils my blood to this day to know she let her sit in the same one all day. And had I not used different pattern ones at home and at school I would’ve never known. Over a month later they informed me that the videos are for internal review only which I knew their internal procedure would only amount to NOTHING. Not even sure the cameras work and you at no point in time will have access to them even so if that’s a selling point for you they tell you that they do have cameras but you can’t access them even in the case of a serious concern so find another place. My last straw was her chasing me to the lobby of the daycare to get into a screaming match with me provoking me at 8 in the morning like I am her friend or something. I didn’t wait too long after that to pull her out because it would have gotten ugly, because if this employee is able to get disrespectful like this what else can she do behind closed doors when no one is watching. Dangerous institution that enables bad teachers who are at their core evil towards CHILDREN. Their retention rates of teachers are also abysmal and was glad to has some semblance of stability with Ms Brittany but unfortunately upper managements handling of things was lackluster so even if it’s not Ms Danielle you will have a plethora of issues and avoid at all costs.
I changed my daughter from another school to this one, and she loves it. She used to cry at her other school daily and was sick all the time. Since attending Sunbrook, she doesn't cry when I drop her off in the mornings. She's learning a lot and really wants to go to school every day. Her teachers, Mrs Yemi and Miss Q, are really good at getting her to listen, participate, and keep her engaged in her lessons even after school. She is now interested in learning all day, every day. I can say without a doubt based on my experience that this school is a great school.
I’ve had a truly wonderful experience with Sunbrook, and I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the care and support my child received, especially from Ms. Ebony, the assistant manager. From the very beginning, she created a safe and nurturing environment where my child felt seen, understood, and supported. My child faced some emotional and behavioral challenges, and it was Ms. Ebony’s patience, empathy, and dedication that made all the difference. She met him exactly where he was, helping him regulate his emotions and build trust. Her kind heart and genuine love for children shone through every interaction, and I firmly believe that without her guidance and encouragement, my child would not have made the progress he did. Ms. Ebony is truly a gift to this facility, and I will always be thankful for the positive impact she had on our family.
After having a horrible experience with our previous daycare, I am so happy to leave a good one. I am extremely grateful for this school and staff! My daughter is always so happy to go to school every day and she never wants to leave when it’s time for me to pick her up. This is always for sure sign that I’ve made the right choice when deciding to send her there. I LOVE her teacher and the director and assistant director are amazing. I have never had any issues with communication and everyone is very professional. Thank you, Sunbrook!!!!! 💙
