What Parents Say
This appears to be a YMCA fitness center, not a daycare facility. Reviews consistently praise the clean facilities, friendly and helpful staff members, and variety of amenities including pools, gyms, and exercise classes. Members appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and individual staff attention.
I think that the layout of this is weird. But overall the facility was nice. It's extremely confusing if you've never been there before since there's so many stairs and places to go. All the equipment was relatively new though so that was nice. The group fitness classes are really good. They're hot tub is currently drained so I think that is a downfall. The pool is really pretty but it's very small. It's giving church vibes. Definitely don't love that you have to pay for parking here. I wouldn't come back because of that.
This is a great gym the recent renovation is really nice, though a lot of the equipment is still pretty old. Love the views of the river. Hate having to walking through a basketball game everytime I want to go to the gym, they really gotta do something about that.
Review of East Shore YMCA – Unclean, Unprofessional, Unsafe As a high-volume triathlete training for multiple Ironman events, my daily sessions often exceed five hours, with weekly totals ranging from 22 to 30 hours. I’m not a casual gym-goer—I know what a professionally run gym and aquatic facility should look like. Unfortunately, East Shore YMCA consistently falls short of even the most basic standards. 🏊♂️ Pool Conditions: Inconsistent and Unsafe - On some days, the pool is barely passable. On others, I’d be better off putting on a wetsuit and swimming in the river across the street. - I’ve personally seen used bandages floating in the pool and scattered around the deck—items I’ve had to alert apathetic lifeguards about. - Hygiene rules are routinely ignored, and enforcement is selective at best. I’ve witnessed multiple instances where individuals who were not certified lifeguards were stationed on duty. - Swimming here poses a legitimate health risk—both from potential staph infections due to water quality and from the possibility of an emergency being handled by underqualified staff. - Frankly, I’m surprised the Department of Health hasn’t intervened under Title 28, Chapter 18. 🏋️♂️ Weight Room: Disorderly and Unsupervised - The weight room often resembles a romper room more than a training facility. - Equipment is frequently left out or not wiped down. I’ve returned weights myself to prevent hazards—despite not being staff. - Unruly children run through the space unchecked, creating safety risks for those trying to train seriously. - While not as unsanitary as the pool, the environment reinforces every negative stereotype associated with Harrisburg city gyms. It’s a shame, because the members seem to have accepted these low standards—and the staff reflects that same indifference. 🏠 Location vs. Standards I live just two blocks from this facility, and for a while, convenience kept me coming back. But after touring the LA Fitness across the river, I realized I no longer need to tolerate a gym that fails to meet even the most basic expectations of professionalism, cleanliness, and safety. By contrast, the Camp Hill YMCA is everything East Shore is not—clean, professional, and well-managed. The difference is stark, and it’s clear that East Shore YMCA does not prioritize its patrons’ well-being. The standards here are not YMCA standards—they’re simply what the staff and members have allowed to persist
Beautiful building, tons of potential. It is filthy. Im talking layers of gunk. The steam room has piles of trash in it and just a layer of white i dont know what all over it. Every locker has a lock on it. You cant use it. The equipment looks like it hasnt been cleaned in 10 years. What is going on? Can someone clean this place? Really sad. Looks like it was once an amazing place. Really neglected. Why do you need to pay for parking? Who is in charge here?
Amazing staff everyone was very kind, welcoming, and understanding. They answered all my questions with a smile but this kind lady names Ana takes that cake she was beyond welcoming made me feel just at home. Take it from me she needs a raise
