If you can do not want to be bothered with people then this little gem is perfect for you. It's personal and a little tight but still gets the job done. We you get past the staff you to feel like you are in your own private home gym. Stratford has keep this little place quitely tucked away. If you are not paying attention you will miss it.
My daughter has been doing swimming lessons with the YMCA over a year now, we’ve been to Trumbull and Fairfield Y and never felt this comfortable. The instructors are very pleasant and it’s not too crowded like the others. My daughter even made friends with the kids in her swim class. Will continue to bring my kids here as I am planning on enrolling my son in swim lessons shortly.
The best service and best run pool. The staff is top notch. They are able to keep their staff, unlike most gyms. This means everyone knows what they are doing. That is a rarity in today's post pandemic world.
Terrible service! I wish I could give no stars. I had my child in the summer program as well as used the facilities throughout the year. Majority of managerial staff are incompetent and unprofessional. The woman at the front desk is pleasant and professional in the afternoon. They do not communicate with one another, which causes an inconvenience and confusion to families. High school staff wasn’t properly trained and or vetted this summer and kids did not go anywhere like stated. I went to the Director about serious issues and she had no clue on what transpired and did not follow up after speaking with her. Even to cancel membership there was no communication after an email and I was told 2 different things at two different times on how to cancel my membership. There needs to be a BIG Shake Up! And managerial staff needs to represent the heart of Stratford. It’s like a college sorority/frat that have aged together but not have grown professionally. Get some grants into that dilapidated building and parking lot. The condition of the building is a reflection of staff. I heard from a reliable source the after school program is subpar too! Get it together STRATFORD YMCA! Go to MILFORD for now people.
This YMCA is in the center of Stratford, convenient to most everyone who lives here. If you join, you become a member of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA group, which includes other YMCAs in Hamden, Milford/Orange, Fairfield, New Haven and more. That's a good thing, too, because this is one of the most depressing facilities anyone could ever want to enter. I am not sure who is responsible for deciding which YMCAs get renovated and which get left to fall to pieces, but this one is old and sad. On the upside, the YMCA provides many, many, many useful and much-needed services to an underserved community. They have before- and after-school care, swimming lessons, summer camps, classes for seniors and a lot more. Some of the people who work there are cranky now and then, but honestly, I don't blame them. They work hard to offer the best they can in rundown and outdated facilities. It's difficult to get people to become members when that is the best they have to offer. Even the parking lot is wonky. If I were rating the facility only, it would be a one star. But the people who work there honestly do everything they can to offer great programs. It's a convenient place to swim for the kids in the winter, and for no cost you can always visit one of the really fancy YMCAs in neighboring towns if you get tired of the Stratford one.
