Steps Ahead Learning Center

My daughter was 2.5 when she started in August 2018. We explained that she has sensory processing disorder and anxiety. She is also cognitively advanced for her age. She was there for less than 3 months. She bit a 4 year old child who pushed her off the slide. My entire emergency contact list was called about the situation. They told my sister the name of the child she bit and other information about my child without even verifying they were talking with someone on the list. They broke confidentiality. They also did not take the time to bond with my child. She began having behavior problems typical of a toddler. The lead toddler teacher informed me that her behavior is all my fault and I'm a bad parent. She also told me my child knew nothing (no colors, shapes, ect) when in fact she did. They also believed they "healed" her anxiety and SPD. They would sneak suckers into her coat pockets even after being asked to stop multiple times. She was constantly sitting in time out, but no one would explain to us what she did. When we informed them we would be leaving, they began treating us badly and wouldn't acknowledge me at pick up. The assistant director then told me I was being a bad parent by switching her daycares and I was traumatizing her. Horrible place. I would never recommend it to anyone!

My 3 year old started this preschool on a Monday. He arrived at 8:15 am for a 8:30am start time. At around 10:15 am I recieved a call. The message came to me that he was kicked out of the school indefinitely due to slapping and kicking the teacher. This type of behavior is not condoned or tolerated with myself or his Dad. We teach our child morals and values. Please, Thank you, Excuse Me, etc., is expected and enforced. I relocated back to the area for a promotion. I am a highly educated women. In a week I relocated my 3 year old son into a new home, and started him into preschool. My son has never went to daycare in his 3 years. He has always been at home. I explained this to the school when I enrolled him the Friday before. They said they understood and would work with him. I did not know how he would adjust, but I figured it would be alot for him to handle. On that day, my child was playing with a toy vacuum. He was asked to sit down. He said he didn't want to. In between that time he started kicking and hitting. I asked him why he reacted like that. He said because the teacher grabbed me. (HMMM) In 2 hrs, I recieved my $175 back and this school made a decision to terminate my 3 year old from their program. I was not offered a meeting to discuss how we can work with him. Again i do not condoned his behavior. I realized that a meeting was not offered because it was not what my child did, it was who he was. He is the 1st cousin-of the owner husband's-16 year old son, that he does not acknowledge. Being ignorant of this situation, I put the 16 year olds mother (my child's aunt) as a person to release the child to. The decision to terminate my child was personal. I have now had to make another adjustment in my 3 year old life. I would not recommend this preschool to anyone!

This is a great place to send your children. It’s so warm, clean and such a friendly environment for your children. I love this center. 💜
