I joined St. Stephens as a teenager when the church I had grown up with refused to confirm me after two years of study. Rev. Doug Carpenter was rector at that time, the church was located in what was then known as, “slab town“ and I came to call Saint Stephens home during my teenage and early adult years. Saint Stephen’s literally brought me in from the cold - and strict traditions of my former faith. In the years following college I married, had children and spent time worshipping at the Cathedral of the Advent and Saint Marys on the Highlands. In my late 40s Saint Stephens once again took me in - coming to my rescue. You see neither of the previous parishes I had joined - then now - To this very day do those churches honor the practice of same-sex marriage. Saint Stephens believes we are all gods children and the very foundation of this church is And always has been –based in love. So my formerly Southern Baptist husband and I are now married, he was confirmed in St Stephens and we are living out our spiritual life in the warmest, most loving, safe, and fully accepting place I know of on this earth. We are so fortunate to be able to call a place like this home. In our world of daily adapting, confusion between acceptable and unacceptable, in my experience - Saint Stephen’s has never ever Wavered from this churches early original mission of out -reach, service within the community, and spreading love and goodness throughout its community both within and outside it’s doors. St. Stephen’s is a wonderful church for all ages regardless of where you are in your faith journey. There is a strong sense of community and positive atmosphere every time I walk through the doors. Great church for the whole family!
My mom and I have visited St. Stephens many times and really enjoyed the services. It’s a very nice and pleasant church! Our prayers go out to the victims and families of last nights shooting.
Been looking for a good church to go to, and my work did a milkshake party there for the graduation party for the kids and it was very nice ,clean and a very welcoming bunch and of people thinking about going to check it out one Sunday
