What Parents Say
St. Peter's Lutheran Early Childhood Center receives mixed reviews. While several parents praise the teachers, care quality, and their children's happiness, serious concerns have been raised about staff conduct, including alleged racial discrimination by a secretary and complaints about unfair treatment of a child with developmental delays.
I had one of the most unprofessional and disturbing experiences at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church/School. I live out of state and simply wanted to stop by and see my niece before I left Detroit. From the moment I walked in, both secretaries were extremely rude and dismissive. What shocked me most was when Andrea, one of the secretaries, walked over and said to me: “If you didn’t look so suspicious, we may have let you in.” She then tried to brush it off as a joke. As a Black man, I found this comment not only inappropriate but racially insensitive and discriminatory. This was not a harmless “joke” — it was a direct insult rooted in bias. What makes this even more troubling is that children of color attend this school. If this is how Andrea felt comfortable speaking to me, what is she saying to them? That thought is beyond unsettling. Schools and churches are supposed to be safe, welcoming spaces, not places where racial profiling and discrimination are tolerated, let alone laughed about. I will not take this situation lightly. It will be addressed and escalated as much as necessary to ensure that what happened to me is not swept under the rug. No parent should have to worry about their child being exposed to this kind of treatment. St. Peter’s needs to take a serious look at its staff and what message they are sending to the community they claim to serve.
This daycare was horrible! I hate I left my previous daycare to come to St. Peter's. The director, teacher, and morning secretary picked on my son because he was not potty trained. Before I enrolled him in the daycare, the director knew my son was not potty trained and speech delayed. They called my husband all day for the smallest thing, like my son took off his shoe or he stood on a table! He is 3 years old!
The first little bit my child was there things were great but the moment my child changed rooms that was it for us. My child would act out and I couldn't figure out why even put my kid in therapy. I removed my kid and brought my child to a new school and it's like night and day and I have no more issues. This alone makes me worried and question. No child should feel like an outcast and marked as a problem child.
My great nephew attends the preschool here. The teachers are wonderful with the kids and my nephew loves it there.
Its an awesome place they are very nice and they work with u when needed not to mention my daughter loves it here so no need to look no further #loveit
