This place is beautiful and full of rich Christian history, and faithful people. 175yr old Church that’s older than Purdue, but has so many updates and excellent music and choral performances you’ll feel immersed in something way bigger than yourself. If you’re looking for a Church home look no further as the people are friendly and the congregation is welcoming. Two worship services on Sunday with a large bible study, then services on Wednesday (especially during Lent and Advent) and several outreach ministries and bible studies are available throughout the week. Private confession and absolution available with either of the two Pastors. They also have an excellent school that’s highly ranked in all academic metrics.
I've been going to St. James ever since I was a child. The church has always had a wonderful, caring, and engaging staff and body of the church. The church is true to scripture, Lutheran doctrine, and God's ever present love, guidance, and truth. The pastors here are extremely welcoming, insightful, and faithful. St. James is the church I will always reccomended to all who wish to hear the fulfilling word of Christ, worship Him with fellow brothers and sisters in faith, and be surrounded by a supportive and caring community nurtured by Christ.
St. James Lutheran Church holds a very special place in our hearts. All of our kids were baptized here, and our eldest daughter recently received her first communion—a truly beautiful and memorable day for our family. The congregation has always been so welcoming and supportive, making us feel like part of a close-knit community from the very beginning. The pastors speak with sincerity and compassion, and the staff go above and beyond to make every service meaningful. We’re deeply grateful to be part of a church that values faith, family, and fellowship in such a genuine way.
St. James is a beautiful church which just celebrated 175 years. The pastors are welcoming, knowledgeable and eager to educate all to know God and the Bible better. From Sunday School, Bible study at the pastors’ homes, logos and lager, as well as church itself, all are ways to learn more . Every Eucharist I feel closer to God and forgiven of my sins. Come and see!
I just started attending St. James about two months ago, and I've been extremely impressed. The congregation has been extremely welcoming and people here have been kind enough to give me rides to mass (I'm a Purdue student w/o a car on campus). The Divine Service is very liturgical and traditional, with great hymn selection as well. Pastors Bombaro and Barcott preserve the beauty and teachings of the Lutheran tradition and have made the experience of starting at a new church not just easy, but enjoyable too.
