4 Stars – Beautiful, Spacious Church with Personal Significance We stopped by St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church during our vacation in Virginia Beach, as it’s affiliated with our home parish. It’s a large and impressive church with a peaceful, welcoming feel. I only wish I had taken more photos during our visit, but at the time, I hadn’t planned on writing a review. Still, I’m glad we made the time to stop in for a quiet moment of reflection.
Finally, a church that has nearly as many masses for the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, as they do on the weekends! (5 masses compared to 6 normally). I moved here from another state for work, and I’m a little appalled at how many churches in this area that have three or more masses on the weekends only have ONE mass for this holy day of obligation, seemingly because it’s on NYE. How is everyone from all the masses supposed to fit comfortably in the Church, or even park their car for that matter? I think all churches should have a vigil mass and a day of mass, and this church had both. I searched Newport News, Hampton, and Norfolk with no luck (though I did eventually find a church in Norfolk whose only mass was a vigil mass). THANK YOU for picking up the slack!
Saint Gregory the Great has a wonderful food pantry, as recently traveled down there on my hog. The food pantry had a vast majority of items with some great pork chops hamburger ham fresh pastries. Got a kick and laughter from the school children at recess playing volleyball by the fence at the food pantry. Plan on going back this week of September 2025. Thank you St Gregory for helping my appetite and my family's appetite stay full. And God bless
I called the church and I spoke with someone trying to get information and the lady was rude. I didn't catch her name because she hung up the phone so fast. No bye, have a nice day, nothing. Just hung up the phone. Please work on your customer service when talking to people.
Thank you St. GREGORY THE GREAT...YOU ARE AWESOME AT GOD'S WORK ! Bless each and every worker! I felt the love of God!
