What Parents Say
St. Christopher's by the Sea is a Montessori school in Key Biscayne with strong community and teaching quality praised by most parents. However, reviews reveal significant concerns about academic rigor, school administration, discipline practices, and management of behavioral issues.
As a parent who has had the pleasure of watching my children thrive at St. Christopher’s Montessori School for the past four years, I can genuinely say that this has been one of the best experiences for our family. When we moved to Key Biscayne, we knew no one, and it felt daunting to navigate a new environment. However, discovering the vibrant community at St. Christopher’s turned out to be our saving grace. The staff is not only highly qualified but deeply passionate about fostering a nurturing environment. Each teacher embodies the Montessori philosophy, encouraging independence, creativity, and a love for learning that has positively impacted my children’s development. I am immensely grateful that we found St. Christopher’s Montessori School. It has not just been a place for my children to learn, but a cornerstone of our family's new journey in Key Biscayne. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any parent seeking an exceptional educational experience within a close-knit community. Thank you, St. Christopher’s, for being a vital part of our family’s story!
We are so grateful for our experience at St Christophers by the Sea. Both my daughters attended, and the education they received was truly excellent. The teachers were the best, highly professional but also caring and attentive. They created a nurturing environment were my kids felt cared, supported and found the love of learning through all the amazing Montessori lessons. The Montessori method in this school, helped my daughters grow in independence, curiosity and confidence. We also found a beautiful and welcoming community, where we instantly felt connected. My daughters and I made life long friends, and I just feel extremely thankful that we had the opportunity to be part of this really special place!
Our family has been part of St. Christopher’s for the past seven years, and it has truly been one of the greatest blessings in our children’s lives. From the very beginning, we were welcomed into a warm, nurturing community where every teacher and staff member genuinely cares about the students as if they were their own. Both of our kids have flourished here — not only academically, but also socially, emotionally, and spiritually. The teachers are dedicated, inspiring, and incredibly supportive, and the environment encourages curiosity, independence, kindness, and respect for others. The school manages to balance high-quality education with the values that matter most to our family. St. Christopher’s has given our children a strong foundation, lifelong friendships, and countless joyful memories. We are forever grateful for this beautiful school and the amazing people who make it such a special place. We can’t wait to be back soon with our third child to continue this wonderful journey! Highly recommend to any family looking for a loving, top-quality educational community!
Our family has been part of the St. Christopher's by the sea Montessori community in Key Biscayne since my daughter started in Pre-K4 and she has been thriving since then, now in 3rd grade. Over the years, we have witnessed not only her strong academic growth, particularly in reading and math but also her motivation to learn, as well as the blossoming of her self-confidence and natural curiosity. What we love most about the Montessori approach is how it honors each child's individuality while encouraging independence, self-direction, and a deep love of learning. The hands-on, purposeful work and multi-age classrooms have helped our daughter stay engaged, build meaningful relationships, and develop a strong sense of responsibility over her learning. She's not just acquiring knowledge, she's learning how to think critically, explore deeply, and trust herself. That, to me, is the true purpose of a Montessori education. Our younger son also began his journey in the toddler group at age 2, and he is now entering his second year. He has grown into a cheerful, confident, and independent little boy who feels safe and empowered in his environment. It’s been beautiful to see how naturally he’s taken to the Montessori structure; he loves his daily routine and clearly feels proud of his accomplishments. We’re also feeling hopeful and excited about the school’s future under the leadership of the new director, Eleanor. Her presence already brings a renewed energy and thoughtful vision, and we’re confident she will continue to uphold the values and nurturing spirit that make this school so special. We are deeply grateful to be part of this caring and inspiring community. It has truly supported the development of both our children, not just as students, but as whole human beings and global citizens.
Saint Christopher by the Sea presents itself as a warm, community-driven school in a convenient location. However, if you are looking for strong academics—particularly in Pre-K or middle school—you may want to reconsider. The school falls short in academic rigor, and in my experience, elementary school turnover was nearly 90%, as many parents transferred their children upon realizing its weaknesses. There seem to be two main groups of parents: those who choose the school for its proximity and convenience and those who see it as an opportunity to build social connections on the island. If you are a busy working parent, be aware that there is a strong expectation for participation in school events, as well as frequent donation requests. Additionally, Saint Christopher does not accept FES scholarships, which may limit access for some families. The school also has a noticeable bias in teacher attitudes, with some educators assuming that students are wealthy and spoiled, which can lead to a condescending demeanor toward certain children. One of the biggest concerns is the weakness of school management in handling serious issues, particularly in cases where a physically aggressive child bullies or harms another student. In these situations, the administration does not take strong or effective action, leaving parents frustrated and children vulnerable. Overall, If you are primarily looking for a social environment and don’t mind lower academic expectations, this school may work for you. However, if academic excellence and strong leadership in student safety are priorities, you may want to explore other options. The high price is just not worth it.
