I was a little hesitant about writing a review, but I feel parents and caregivers deserve to know about my experience. My child attended Early Head Start at the Dearborn Heights location on Parker Street, and unfortunately, we had several concerning incidents. The first incident happened when my child came home saying she had been hit by a “monster teacher.” When I requested to review the classroom video, I was not allowed to see it. At that time, the site manager was Jody Lee. This immediately raised concerns for me. The second incident involved my child having an accident at school. Instead of contacting me, the teacher put my three-year-old in size 12 pants with no pull-up. This was upsetting because I was never called so I could bring appropriate clothing, underwear, or pull-ups. From the beginning, I was told the center kept extra pull-ups on site and that I didn’t need to provide any. On top of that, I had already placed extra pull-ups and underwear in my child’s cubby, which made the situation even more confusing and concerning. It felt like my child’s needs were not being taken seriously. When I brought this issue to the site manager and the counselor, I felt like my concerns were brushed aside rather than properly addressed. That was a major red flag for me. I can’t say for sure why this happened, but as a parent of African/Native descent, it left me feeling uncomfortable and unheard. Overall, Wayne Metro Head Start is not a bad program, but the staff at this location need to do better. Parents should be contacted immediately if anything happens while their child is in the school’s care. I strongly encourage parents to pray and carefully consider their options before choosing a Head Start location.
This was the best decision enrolling my daughter in Headstart. Not only are the teachers amazing but so are the family advocates! My daughter loves going here. She gets so excited and even asks to go on the weekends 🤣 She's made great friends and I think she's picked up a few great things in just 2 months going!
Well if you want your kids to be taught by a teacher who after hours treats people poorly then send them to Sunnyside New Boston. The site manager who runs the place has her daughter come over after she is out of school so she doesn’t have to get a ride home and she is in the classroom with the kids. Add on top of that the way she talks bout the parents is so poor. You have choices but this isn’t a choice I would make for my young kids. Plus the staff has already had turn over issues because the site manager doesn’t know how to be a manager.
