What Parents Say
SoulShine Decatur has highly polarized reviews. Most parents (5 reviews) praise the caring teachers, personal attention, curriculum, real-time video updates, and strong community. However, two parents reported serious safety concerns including a child escaping toward traffic, inadequate supervision, food allergy violations, and management attempts to conceal incidents.
One of the hardest things a parent does is trusting a business to watch and care for your children while you have to have to work. I have never felt like SoulShine was a business as they have made a personal touch with all three of my children that have gone there. All of my children still talk about some of the teachers that they had a special bond with. I'm writing this review as my youngest son is going to leaving SoulShine and we are parting ways. They have been nothing but caring, thoughtful and transparent as long has I have had my children there (over 10 years between the 3 of them). I love SoulShine and would recommend them again and again over any day care in the Atlanta area.
Both of my children are currently enrolled at SoulShine Decatur. My oldest has been there since July 2020 and my youngest has been attending the school for over a year. Starting school during the pandemic was not the easiest, but Soulshine navigated it very well all things considered. Overall, my family has had a great experience in our almost four years at the school. It's been amazing to see my oldest grow, learn, and flourish with the great teachers she has had. My youngest too has had kind and supportive teachers since her first days there and seems to be learning so much. I'm glad they're part of our village. Though nobody and no school is perfect, in my opinion, they do their best and have the children's best interests at heart. Incidents that do occur are addressed and rectified quickly. I highly recommend this school.
Just finished our last day at Soulshine and I shed a few tears as I walked our girls out of the building for the last time. Our oldest was there for nearly 4.5 years and youngest just over a year. Soulshine has wonderful teachers, a great curriculum, and handled Covid extremely well. Our children love their teachers and we were so lucky to have an absolute superstar educator teach our oldest for 2+ years. We also got along extremely well with other parents at events / birthday parties over the years. Soulshine is a great school, and I will always look fondly at our time there.
It was my kid that got out of the gate and started to walk towards the road. Finally an employee ran to grab him before he made it into traffic. We watched the video with the manager, in her office…. After they tried to hide it from us. Be cautious with this place. Their image is their primary concern. I’m gonna blame that on the owner and not the people working there. But dangerous situations are created by people not paying attention or not caring Stay away. Seriously for the price, we all deserve better
Management completely misrepresented themselves and continually lied to parents about issues that arose. We saw multiple serious child safety issues during our time there, including mildew in the sippy cups, a child getting out of the gate & walking through the parking lot toward Howard, parental food allergies notes being ignored, and regular violations of teacher/student ratios. The turnover was scary and the substitutes they brought in were done negilgent & uninterested in the children in many experiences. All of these concerns were brought to the management team & owner's attention by multiple parents (in writing & via in-person meetings), with minimal changes happening. It really scares me they're still allowed to operate a daycare and I write this review purely to help ensure other parents go into the relationship with Soulshine eyes wide open. We definitely let them pull the wool over our eyes for far too long.
