What Parents Say
Sonshine Learning Center receives mixed reviews with a stark divide between satisfied and dissatisfied parents. Positive reviewers praise the warm, welcoming staff and quality care, while negative reviewers cite serious concerns about staff turnover, lack of supervision, unprofessional management, inadequate communication, and the director's hostile demeanor.
The director is a very rude and unpleasant person. My son was there for a short time and the majority of that time he did not have a permanent teacher in his room. He was shuffled from class to class with little to no communication to me, the parent. One day I brought him and no one was in the classroom, I went outside and two other teachers for the two older classrooms were out there with wayyyy more children than looked safe were at the playground. They didn’t know which room he was supposed to be in, the younger classroom teacher also said he wasn’t supposed to be in her room that day. So where was he supposed to be? Then the assistant director came to the office and said he could sit in there with her until they figured it out. Ummm no thank you. I left, with my son. The director never called to address the situation. Extremely unprofessional, uncaring.
Our family relocated to the Savannah area in April. My daughter had attended the same day care in New Orleans for 2.5 years and had anxiety about attending a new day care. The staff at Sonshine Learning Center was so warm and welcoming to her and made her feel right at home. Our drive home every day is filled with great reports from her day at school. She was very happy to join the graduation ceremony and the summer camp program is filled with lots of activities and fun to keep her stimulated. We are grateful for Ms. Kilburn, Ms. Meg, Ms. Amber, Ms. Candace, Ms. Arlene and everybody else that helped our daughter adjust so well to her new life. Our daughter has received nothing but great care from them.
I am concerned about the amount of staff working here. It seems that there is a different teacher in the classroom every day. The staff here does not appear to have a long shelf-life. Not sure if it's rotten luck or due to managerial circumstances. Thankfully, my child is not in the infant rooms. Those teachers always have WAY more kids than I would think should be allowed, and probably more than they are paid for. Bless their hearts. This center was fine earlier this fall but lately has become over crowded with children, and lacking staff. Let's focus on the children we have and not the $$$ we see from new parents.
My daughter has been at this daycare since November of 2020, I have thoroughly enjoyed this daycare. The teachers and owner truly care about the wellbeing of your child, and what they are learning. I recommend this daycare to anyone looking in the Savannah area.
I would not recommend this Daycare. The assistant director is a sweet woman, the teachers (that my child had) are nice but I have had some minor issues with. Ex: putting two diapers on my child at nap time, sending pissy clothes home everyday, and on three different occasions have sent my child home with a diaper rash so bad that they could not walk straight and I was not warned nor did it have any ointment on it! That being said, THE DIRECTOR IS HORRIBLE. She is very aggressive, defensive, and completely unapproachable! After going to her with a problem I had encountered, calmly may I add, she was quick to belittle me and implied that my requests were ridiculous. The next day I was greeted with an apology letter because she knew that she was out of line. She doesn't say hello, doesn't say good-bye, and just isn't who I would want my child to be around. Oh BTW... I turned in the mandatory two weeks notice that I would be removing my child and with one days notice, a letter was placed in my child's bag stating that they did not find it necessary for my child to return for their final week. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! Good luck parents but their is no "Sonshine" in this woman's heart.
