What Parents Say
Sonshine Childcare Center receives mixed reviews. Three parents praise the facility's design, staff kindness, communication systems, and child development outcomes. However, three other parents report concerns about lack of trauma-informed training, poor leadership, lack of transparency, and questionable management practices.
As a first time parent forced to seek childcare due to unexpected circumstances, I was utterly not prepared to send my child to daycare. I searched high and low until I found Sonshine. I got to visit the facility before making a decision to enroll. My first impressions eased my concerns about sending my baby to daycare. I can tell the playgrounds and classrooms were intentionally designed to nurture children’s learning and growth. But that alone is not what makes it a great place. The kindness, care, and passion that radiates from the staff is irreplaceable. My child quickly adapted because of this positive environment and in turn, my worry went away. The staff made this difficult transition not only easier for my daughter, but for myself as well. I have the upmost confidence that my child is loved and well cared for especially after seeing how she has grown to love her teachers. As a parent, that is all we can ever wish for. I also appreciate their educational values and clear focus on communication. An app is used for frequent updates/pictures along with the option for instant messaging. Having the ability to check on my child through the day and quickly/easily contact her teachers adds another layer of peace in my mind. The crafts that I absolutely adore getting to bring home are an added bonus. Thank you, Sonshine staff, for making our experience here a true blessing for our family.
Sonshine childcare sets the standard for what quality childcare should look like. One of the most impressive aspects of this center is how seriously they take parents' concerns. Communication is clearly a priority. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a daycare that values trust, accountability, and the well-being of every child.
⚠️ Honest Review of Sonshine Daycare in Pittsburg, KS I usually try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but I feel like this one needs to be shared for the sake of other families, especially those who have children with trauma histories or special emotional needs. Sonshine Daycare has really nice facilities, the building is clean, the rooms are well-designed, and at first glance, it looks like a great place. But what matters most is the people caring for the kids, and that is where things completely fall apart. There is a clear lack of training when it comes to supporting children from difficult backgrounds. The staff seems to have little understanding of trauma-informed care, and instead of meeting kids with patience and empathy, their responses often feel cold, dismissive, or even blaming. This is not just disappointing, it is harmful. When concerns were brought up, the response lacked emotional intelligence. There was little empathy, no real curiosity about what the child might be experiencing, and instead of collaborative problem solving, it felt like the focus was on defending the daycare’s choices. Leadership is another major issue. There is no consistent or competent direction, and communication with parents feels disorganized and unclear. You can tell the foundation is weak, and it reflects in how things are handled across the board. This place has potential, it really does. But having a beautiful building means nothing without staff who are trained, supported, and equipped to provide compassionate, high-quality care to all children. Until they make major changes in training and leadership, I would not recommend Sonshine to any family, especially those who have kids with higher emotional needs. I hope they take this as a wake-up call to invest in what really matters, the hearts and minds of the kids they are responsible for.
This daycare lacks transparency and seemingly makes decisions for their own convenience rather than the child's well-being. I would not recommend.
Very sketchy place! The pastor was boasting about working with only females. He also said, they don't allow "certain parents" in the class room because they, "criticize everything." What do they have to hide?!?!?
