A remarkable small museum (in an octagonal room maybe 40-50 feet across) that's a ball to explore, with many artifacts arranged in drawers covered by something like plexiglass: probably great for kids to view, since the stuff is down on their level.
The preservation of historical native artifacts can teach us a lot about the human experience of the past, but also lets us see today's world with fresh eyes. One instance: the sleekness and thoughtful design of sleds and kayaks compare favorably with modern designs made with computational optimization. Though human tools have evolved, our products have not evolved as much as we may think.
Sometimes museums can be overwhelming. This one was great because it is relatively small but well organized. It focused on the indigenous people and was extremely educational. I was blown away by how much I learned. Highly recommend!
A very unique experience. For those on a cruise this is worth the walk to see. Many cool artifacts with an interesting back story to the building. Lots of documented history and the lady at the front desk was very knowledgeable.
We had a wonderful afternoon here. The displays were awesome. The staff, especially Jeffery, were wonderful and knowledgeable. There is so much to see and learn here. Jeffrey showed us some hands on items from the drawers to help us understand more of the culture of the southeast Alaskan Native tribes.
