What Parents Say
Settlement Music School is a music instruction center in Philadelphia with overwhelmingly positive reviews praising quality teachers, diverse music programs, and strong community culture. However, some parents reported serious concerns including frequent teacher changes affecting learning continuity, high costs, and one critical incident involving inadequate response to a child's medical emergency and alleged mishandling of special needs accommodations.
Last year my child had two different teachers, the first teacher was great and the second teacher was terrible. This year my child had three different teachers! The first teacher was great, the second teacher was terrible, and the third teacher we only saw for a month before the school year ended. How can a child effectively learn with so many changes??
My daughter has been taking classes and lessons at Settlement going on 5 years now. She’s also in the youth choir. They offer financial aid and run a preschool program. The teachers are top notch and the school as a whole provides a nice sense of community. Though a lot of the instruction is classical oriented—and that may be a newcomer’s takeaway after looking through the website, my daughter plays folk and rock mostly. Anything goes, just let them know what you want/need.
As I’m sure settlement music school is a nice place for children who attend the program. As for the daycare program that this school allows to run in their facility, they have a lot of work to do. I could start when Melissa, my sons old daycare teacher, and Candace green the assistant director lied on an incident report about how they both left my child to have a seizure with his pca and speech therapist. Candace did not help my child, she did not follow his seizure action plan, she didn’t call 911. Candace never called me to tell me what happened. They left everything on my sons 23 year old 1:1, who they never showed the plan. His 1:1 called me and I had to rush my son to Einstein because he started passing out in my car. Candace told my sons 1:1 not to call 911. And she was no where to be found when I arrived to take him immediately to the hospital. The school district investigated and concluded they indeed lied on the incident report. Along with Terrell owens who didn’t even call to make sure my son was okay until 2 days later. This place bullied me and my son the momment we applied for him having autism and special needs. My sons 1:1 confirmed all my fears, and now he is home schooled doing better than ever.I run into parents from the daycare who ask what happened and are shocked. It’s sad when a parent can be bullied out of a program, and that these women don’t have the proper repercussions. I’ll be sharing my experience with the autism community. I wouldn’t want any child discriminated against like mines. Sad image is more important than a child’s safety.
I don't know about were you live ,but I live a houre away from the school and I went there hoping I could get my daughter in piano class and they weren't of much help. They ask for to much money per houre. They make it harder for the kid to learn piano. For now I think the teachers are good. It's just the people in charge of the schedule. They only give a one hour per lesson. I didn't sign my daughter up in the end. I hope to find another place and when I do I'll definitely share it with you guys. Hope you found this helpful and have a good day. (• ε •)
I love 💕 the Rhythm 🎶 and Motions Dance 💃🏾 classes. They also offer tap dancing classes as well.
