What Parents Say
Seedlings to Sunflowers receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents who praise the caring staff, educational approach, and supportive community environment. One parent noted concerns about teacher turnover affecting classroom quality and how management addressed their child's emotional distress, while another raised concerns about ideological messaging.
Our daughter was briefly enrolled at Seedlings to Sunflowers with the Gorham public pre-k program. We began the school year feeling confident that this would be a wonderful environment for our daughter. She loved her original teachers, made sweet friendships, and came home daily excited to share new skills including sign language and consistently writing her name independently. The classroom felt warm, structured, and engaging. Her teachers were wonderful! Unfortunately, two and three months into the school year, both of her teachers left for other positions. After their departure, there was a very noticeable shift in the classroom environment and structure. A new teacher took over and significantly changed the classroom setup, removing many toys, sensory tables, pretend play materials, wall decor, artwork, and family photos. The room no longer had the warm, play-based feel that we valued at the start of the year. We also observed a decline in structure and academic growth. Our daughter stopped coming home with new skills or sharing learning milestones as she had earlier in the year. It appeared that more time was spent in unstructured settings rather than engaged classroom learning. The final concern for us involved a classroom discussion about a volcano eruption that resulted in people dying. While we understand the importance of answering children’s questions honestly, we felt the topic could have been redirected in a more developmentally appropriate way. The conversation caused ongoing fear for our daughter, which she has now carried with her for weeks. She even began to feel anxious about going to school and, at times, didn’t want to attend. I briefly brought this concern to upper management, but felt it was dismissed rather than thoughtfully addressed. Teacher turnover can happen, and we recognize that transitions are sometimes unavoidable. However, the overall change in classroom environment and educational quality along with how our concerns were handled ultimately led us to withdraw our daughter from the program. We are grateful for our daughters positive start and the friendships she made and we do hope that the school has since worked through its staffing troubles.
Seeding to sunflowers is a great family community and supports their families in anyway they can. Our baby is almost 2 and has been with them since she was 3 months old. She loves her caretakers and the leaders of the center. We feel so blessed to be a part of this community but most importantly we feel safe and secure with our child attending. We are not worried if she takes too long to figure out potty training, because seedlings staff will be there to support us and will NOT threaten us with kicking our baby out like some of the other daycares we have heard about.
My son has been attending S2S for almost two years now starting in Nursery 1. I love everything about their approach to working with the kids, what they have to offer for education, activities, nourishment, staff, support and so much more. The whole S2S staff is phenomenal and it is clear from the start that they are all in this for the children and it's not just a job to them. Their communication is great and they doing a phenomenal job as keeping you informed on their goals, events happening in the community, how to participate in supporting other families and what they have planned for upcoming months ahead. The building is safe, clean and the food program is amazing. I have nothing bad to say about them and am beyond grateful to be part of their community and that my son is able to attend.
It's been amazing watching the center grow, they have a great program and philosophy. Love every one of them, as my son gets to see a lot of different teachers, not just his class. I've experienced many daycares now due to moving and I dont worry about my son here. He's learning respectful behavior, learning new foods and making new friends both young and older. Of course he gets the obvious experience with words, arts, music and play but this center is so much more than that!
Seedlings is such a great childcare facility in Gorham! The teachers are professional, the classrooms are clean and neat, the kids play outside every day and get to garden, and they're taking covid very seriously and check temps at the door every morning and again at lunch for each child and staff. They have been great at daily communication as well. I love the app they use to show updates of your kids in the moment and upload pictures as well- always look forward to the updates each day around noon time!
