We couldn’t be happier with this nature- and experience-based kinder school. Since joining, our son’s self-esteem grew noticeably. He now understands his body and boundaries—what he can do safely and when to ask for help. He’s also more curious and respectful of the natural world, and the program’s gentle focus on kindness and human rights shows up in how he treats others. The educators are kind, attentive, patient, and intentional. Highly recommend.
Saxapahaw Village Kids was the best choice we ever made in childcare. Our kiddo needed a space that was fully their own space to build confidence, independence, and blossom into the personality we knew was there but had long been masked due to several factors, especially the pandemic. When morning drop offs were particularly hard, SVK staff calmly and gently allowed my kid to feel all the hard feelings while I slipped away for work. While it was hard to leave, staff were communicative about how long it took our kiddo to feel calm again. It was a long time before we had tearless drop offs, but we saw smiling photos of our kiddo every day and knew they were having a good experience outside of the drop off time. And after being at another childcare place where we saw our kid frowning or sad in photos daily, this was a HUGE difference. Lastly, when our kiddo had a phase of hitting other kids, the SVK staff were understanding of it being age appropriate, but communicative with us and our kid about other kids’ boundaries, and the behavior at preschool soon stopped. Our kiddo made lasting friendships and above all, gave them confidence. We are forever grateful and love SVK.
Our son spent three wonderful years at SVK, and we are deeply grateful for the experience. The Reggio Emilia philosophy and strong outdoor‑learning approach helped him grow into a curious, confident, and creative learner. He learned through hands-on exploration, meaningful projects, and daily time in nature, which strengthened his independence, resilience, and problem‑solving skills. What we valued most was the sense of community. We always felt welcomed, involved, and connected, and our son truly felt he belonged. The teachers are caring, intentional, and dedicated. We highly recommend this school to any family seeking a nurturing, community‑centered learning environment. We miss SVK!
We’ve had both of our children go through this program, and it’s been an incredible experience for our family. The teachers are truly wonderful! They have a gift for fostering a love of the outdoors while making every day feel like an adventure. Our kids absolutely loved their time there; they came home happy, curious, and full of stories about their play-based discoveries. It’s a special place that really understands how children learn best. Shout out to Mrs. K, she rocks! Thank you for giving our children an awesome experience!
My children attended SVK from age 2 to 5. They are 10 now and I still see the imprint of this magical place on them! Kendra and Renee are such dedicated, educated, and naturally talented educators. We saw so much growth in our kiddos emotional intelligence, curiosity and competency in an outdoor environment, and understanding of how to navigate routines and functioning in a group. I look back at my first days of daycare and how much I struggled with that transition, and with hindsight see the SVK experience is one of the best things I could have given them.
