What Parents Say
Savannah R3 School District receives predominantly negative reviews citing poor staff conduct, inadequate special education services, and overall dissatisfaction. A small number of positive reviews praise the district's improvement and newer staff members. Most reviewers strongly advise against enrolling children, particularly those with special needs.
The staff are very rude and this is a school district that needs to be shut down. It's been a few years since I wrote the original review. It hasn't gotten better. My original claim is still true and they sometimes lie and hide stuff to make themselves look good. For example, kid grabbed my phone and sent racist stuff to my friend. Vice Principal at the high school lied and said I gave it to him. Bam, got a lunch detention. I now hate him. Their special education program might as well not exist, it lies about many things. I even caught them in a lie and said I asked questions that were off topic which I didn't even do. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!!!
This school district is not equipped for children on the autism spectrum. They do not offer proper services for children that have behavorial disorders, severe mental health issues, and when asked to have your child placed in a school district that is better equipped for your child's needs, you get denied. The assistant super attendant has told me in the past that I was just trying to use the school as a way of daycare. My daughter was only allowed to attend school for 2 hours a day when he made that remark. No child left behind does not seem to apply for this school district. We moved away for 5 years and had to relocate back to the Savannah R3 school district. This year my child is only allowed to attend for 1 hour a day. Her needs are nowhere near met. But, I must say that I do like the newer Special Needs director, much more than the one we dealt with last time. Mrs. Schmitz does not shut you out or hang up on you, when you have concerns about your child. The last Special Needs Director was a nightmare!
Senior this year, this school has been nothing but a nightmare for me. The constant bullying, the constant oppression, the aggressive policing of rules. It’s just a bad school. If you’re not in Savannah and have other options choose anywhere else to put your child, especially if they have special needs.
Our daughter moved to this school district from St. Joseph and it was amazing the difference. Fantastic results.
Go some place else where maybe you'll learn something. St. Joseph is just down the road with lots of great schools.
