What Parents Say
San Jose Parents Participating Nursery School is a cooperative preschool where parents volunteer one day per week in exchange for significantly reduced tuition ($150-$450/month). Parents consistently praise the play-based curriculum, caring teachers, strong community of families, and beautiful facilities with extensive outdoor spaces.
My wife and her siblings went to this school when they were tiny, so bringing our daughter her starting in the one day class was like a magical dream. The school is play focused, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t learning. I believe most skills will be rendered obsolete by the time these kids are in the job market, but the one thing, the most valuable skill, will be human interaction. Knowing how to build and maintain human relationships will be the one thing AI can’t do. That’s one of the great things the kids learn here. They can hold conversations with adults who aren’t their parents. They can resolve conflicts and think creatively and collaboratively — our daughter is in the Pre K program at SJPPNS and we’re definitely going to enroll our son when he’s old enough to start. This school and its teachers are an incredible part of our lives, we’ve met so many great parents and kids, and we’ve gotten to play an active role in our kid’s education. At first, the co-op aspect of the school seems like it’ll be difficult to make time for, but it’s really not that hard and it’s worth every second. They’re only young once! Very highly recommended!
Our family loves San Jose Parents. Both of my kids thrived here and made great friends. It’s a beautiful school with a large yard and each day is filled with engaging/educational activities. Bonus of participating in this school: your family gains a supportive network of parents who care about your child. It’s truly a special place.
This is my daughter's second year at San Jose Parents and we love it! My daughter is extremely nervous in new places with new people and she has really attached to the teachers and parents here. It's really cheap (only $150-$450 per month, depending on your class) because parents volunteer in the classroom one day per week, so they don't actually have any paid staff except for the teachers. They have a huge sandpond (with water faucets!), big play structure, and tons of messy play crafts and science experiments. I highly recommend sending your child here!
Best preschool around! Set up very well for children to learn while they play. Large indoor and outdoor play areas.
I'm so happy that we chose to go here. I love that I get to see my daughter learn and play with her friends - I see her grow and do things that I wouldn't normally see if I sent her to a drop-off preschool. She loves it so much that she asks to go every day. And I've been impressed with the teachers. I've seen my daughter blossom under the guidance of Teacher Sharon. She approaches each child according to their needs and in a way in which they are more receptive to what she is saying and doing - so they learn better. And Sharon has reasonable expectations of the children, taking their age into account. I've seen her deal with behavioral issues with care and respect, and has taught us parents to do the same. She also fosters caring and respect amongst the children. And I've learned a good deal from her as well when it comes to parenting/childhood education. This is a play-based curriculum, so you don't have flashcards and rote learning, but because of this approach my daughter has learned an incredible amount. As they get older, what we think of as formal teaching is introduced into the curriculum. I saw the older kids' class with Teacher Suzanne, and they were sitting in a circle, learning Spanish and having fun. The other parents are great to work with, and the sweat equity that you put in pays off in a more engaged parent community and lower tuition. Even though it's called a parent participating school, we have grandparents and other care givers filling the role of the in-classroom parent. So there are ways to make it work if both parents are working full time. I highly recommend this preschool.
